Episode 6 of The Mandalorian revolves around Din Djarin and Bo-Katan’s visit to Plazir-15 to recruit Axe Woves and Bo-Katan’s former fleet. The episode is streaming on Disney+.
Recap
Axe Woves, Koska Reeves, and the rest of the Mandalorians who served under Bo-Katan are now privateers for hire with Imperial ships in their possession.
They take on a contract on Plazir-15 and Din Djarin and Bo-Katan travel to the planet to convince them to rejoin her. Plazir-15 is an independent planet in the outer rim without much information available to them.
When they arrive, they are immediately called upon by the leadership of the planet who are having a party. Djarin and Bo come face to face with the Queen and her husband Captain Bombardier, a former Imperial who was sent there as part of the Amnesty program.
They explain to their guests how they built such a well-functioning society but admit that they’re facing some problems. When Bo asks if she can meet with Axe Woves, she is told that it can be arranged if she and Djarin can help the people of Plazir-15.
They learn that the society strongly depends on former separatist and imperial droids but lately, there have been isolated incidents of droid malfunctions that have got the people worried.
Djarin and Bo begin their investigation by meeting the chief security officer, Commissioner Helgait, who shows them footage of the various incidents and then points them in the direction of the Ugnaughts who are responsible for the droid maintenance.
The Ugnaughts agree to help Djarin after he reasons with them and they give him the location of the next predicted malfunction. They arrive at a loading dock where a battle droid oversees super battle droids moving equipment.
While Bop questions the battle droids, Djarin tries to mess with the super battle droids and stumbles on the malfunctioning one, immediately making a break for it.
They chase it through the streets and eventually take it down. Bo finds evidence pointing to a droid bar called The Resistor so they visit the bar to find out more.
Djarin threatens the bartender droid due to his distrust of droids but they admit that they want to help as they’re worried they will be replaced if the malfunctions continue.
It explains to the Mandalorians that all droids that visit the bar are served Nepenthe, a viscous lubricant meant to protect against mechanical wear and tear and deliver program-refreshing sub-particles.
They are informed that all the malfunctioning droids received the same batch of Nepenthe so they take some of it for analysis. During the analysis, they find evidence of nano-droids and chain code deeply embedded which leads them to Commissioner Helgait.
They confront him with their findings at which point he reveals that he was a separatist who sympathized with Count Dooku and is against the Empire and the New Republic.
Bo-Katan subdues him with ease and they take him to the Queen and Captain Bombardier so that he may face punishment. They exile him and then bestow Plazir-15’s highest honor on Bo and Djarin.
They then head off to meet Axe Woves and when Djarin asks Bo what she’s going to say, she says she’ll only know once she’s in front of them.
She ends up challenging Axe to one on one combat and gets him to yield. He then claims that she should be challenging Din Djarin instead because they still believe that whoever leads them must wield the Darksaber.
Djarin tells them that while exploring Mandalore, he was captured and the blade was taken from him. Bo was the one who defeated his captor so the blade rightfully belongs to her.
Everyone else accepts this as Bo takes the Darksaberf from Djarin, ready to lead the people of Mandalore in a new age.
Review
- The biggest highlight of this episode is all the high-profile cameos in this episode. At this point, the galaxy has featured numerous well-renowned figures and Jack Black, Lizzo, and Christopher Lloyd can now be added to the list.
- Djarin and Bo-Katan work well as a team and that goes for the actors portraying them. They have well-balanced chemistry and Katie Sackhoff’s interactions with Grogu are very sweet.
- This series has done a wonderful job of portraying the different outcomes of societies in a post-Empire galaxy and this is another great example of one. Plazir-15 is depicted as an idealistic democracy in the Outer Rim which is not something seen too often in that region.
