Within the first week of its release in September 2019, Amazon Prime Video’s The Family Man was an instant hit. Featuring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, the web series garnered praise from every corner.
The success of the first season ensured its comeback with a second season.
Raj Nidimoru, the director of The Family Man had this to say about the trials faced by the team:
It is a tall order. This is the first time that we are in a sequel kind of territory. We have not done anything like this before. We did this because the world in the show is so exciting. It is interesting yet challenging to match up to the expectations. We had to step it up.
With Bajpayee leading the front, season one featured a stellar cast including Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi, Neeraj Madhav, Pawan Chopra, Kishore Kumar, Sharad Kelkar and Gul Panag.
It was recently announced that South Indian industry’s star Samantha Akkineni will mark her debut in the digital space with The Family Man in season two and play a pivotal role.
In an interview, Akkineni talked about her debut and said:
With the digital space booming, I knew I had to be a part of this revolution. What more excellent way to make my digital debut, than with one of India’s most beloved series, The Family Man 2. I have loved Director Raj & DK’s work, and given the global scope and standing of Amazon Prime Video, I couldn’t have asked for better partners.”
She further revealed that her role will be different from anything she has done before will “surprise and delight” her fans.
The first season revolved around an ordinary man who lives an extraordinary life working for National Investigation Agency as a senior analyst in the anti-terror squad.
The engaging storyline was backed by some powerful and compelling performances from the actors and managed to keep the audiences hooked to their screens.
Season one ended on a cliffhanger and hence season two is expected to pick up the story from that point.
The shooting for the second season was wrapped up earlier this month and the makers are expecting to release it soon.
According to Nidimoru, the makers are aiming to release season two by the end of the year.
