Panchayat: Amazon Prime video’s new rural comedy web series

Amazon Prime Video has collaborated with The Viral Fever for the second time to bring forth a comedy set in rural India titled, Panchayat. The web series has been created by the makers of Kota Factory and Hostel Daze.

It stars TVF favourites Jitendra Kumar and Biswapati Sarkar along with Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Chandan Roy among others. The official description reads:

Panchayat is a comedy-drama, which captures the journey of an engineering graduate Abhishek, who for lack of a better job option joins as secretary of a panchayat office in a remote village of Uttar Pradesh.

Synopsis

The recently released trailer showcases Abhishek (Kumar) move to Phullera village for a measly salary of ₹20,000. As he starts settling into his new life and job, he faces many issues like being forced to get involved in the villagers’ personal affairs and live through constant power cuts at night.

After finally having enough of these predicaments, Abhishek’s friend advises him to clear the Commons Admission Test (CAT) in order to get a better job. He’s dedicated and studies late into the night using emergency lights and candles.

He eventually decides to install solar panels in the village but this decision is not met with too much enthusiasm from the rural folk.

What further turns his life takes remains to be seen.

Panchayat has been directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and written by Chandan Kumar. The web series will have 8 episodes and premier on 3 April.
