The trailer for Disney+ Hotstar’s magnum opus historical web series ‘The Empire’ is out. All episodes will premiere on August 27.
The Empire will trace the rise of the Mughal Empire from the first battle of Panipat in 1526 when Babur came to India. The trailer begins with Babur (Kunal Kapoor) preparing to leave Samarkand and beginning his conquest in India with the first battle of Panipat against Ibrahim Lodi.
Critics have already likened the visuals and scenes to movies like ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Padmaavat’ and fan favourite ‘The Game of Thrones’ series. The show will cover the entire rise of the Mughal Empire with Babur to its decline during Aurangzeb’s rule and thus aims to add to India’s historical fiction genre.
The web series has been created by Nikkhil Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Monisha Advani. It is based on the book Empire of the Moghul by Alex Rutherford. It will be directed by Mitakshara Kumar and boasts a stellar cast, including Kunal Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Dino Morea, Drashti Dhami, Srijan Srivastava, among more.
