The Crown will end with season 5; new cast revealed

Netflix’s The Crown will come to an end with its fifth season. The announcement was made by the show’s creator/writer Peter Morgan.

It was also revealed that Imelda Staunton will replace Olivia Colman to play the Queen.

The show will go on to cover the 21st century, along with the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.

Staunton, who is well-known for her role of Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series, will be the third and final person to play the lead role after Colman and Claire Foy.

Expressing her joy to take over this role, Staunton stated, “I have loved watching The Crown from the very start.

“As an actor, it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion.”

Netflix is currently streaming The Crown’s third season. In case you haven’t caught up, you can catch the trailer for the latest season here:
