“Following a high-speed car chase with the police after a thwarted sabotage mission, the trio end up seeking refuge in a South African bank in Silverton, Pretoria. Taking the bank and its customers hostage and demanding the release of Nelson Mandela in exchange for the release of the prisoners, the stakes and tensions run high.”
Upon reading about the real-life Silverton Siege of 1980, Walter Dube became inspired and began developing a script with fellow American Film Institute alumnus Sechaba Morojele as editor. Dube said the film would be about 60% factual, and that they would use creative license for the rest, wanting to make it “an entertaining story, not a documentary”.
On the run from the authorities, three freedom fighters find themselves cornered in a bank in Silverton, Pretoria. As time passes by, they decide to use their precarious situation to send a message to the people of South Africa by demanding the release of Nelson Mandela in exchange for the safe release of the hostages.
