#blackAF: Kenya Barris is back with a mockumentary

Netflix has released a trailer for an upcoming mockumentary called #blackAF. Starring Kenya Barris and Rashida Jones, the story is based on the couple itself.

The plot is a fictionalized version of the couple’s life. However, what makes the series unique is how the duo handles day to day situations including topics like parenting, relationships, and especially culture.

Jones plays as Barris’ wife Joya with their children being played by Genneya Walton, Iman Benson, Justin Claiborne, Scarlet Spencer, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and Richard Gardenhire Jr. As well as starring in the show, he has also created it.

“#blackAF flips the script on what we’ve come to expect a family comedy series to be. Pulling back the curtain, #blackAF uncovers the messy, unfiltered, and often hilarious world of what it means to be a ‘new money’ black family trying to get it right in a modern world where ‘right’ is no longer a fixed concept.”

Synopsis

The upcoming web series is Kenya’s first under his deal with Netflix. The writer previously created Black-ish which has been running for over 6 seasons on ABC.

The trailer of #BlackAF feels like a combination of a family show while having elements like behind the scenes which just makes the entire thing funnier.

#blackAF arrives on Netflix on 17th April. Check out the trailer:
