It seems that 2019 is the year for sci-fi. Netflix has introduced us to another new sci-fi thriller titled ‘I Am Mother’ through a trailer on YouTube.
When you’ve been raised your whole life believing in one thing, the thought of you having been in oblivion your entire life seems terrifying . I Am Mother is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humankind has been supposedly wiped out.
In the trailer we see ‘Daughter’ being raised to her teenage years by a robot who functions as her guardian. Lovingly called ‘Mother’, the machine takes care of her and is apparently preparing the child for repopulating the earth.
However, this entire relationship goes awry when the facility they live in is invaded by an injured outsider who tells ‘Daughter’ things she never knew. What follows is a fierce battle between the mother and daughter.
The cast of the movie includes Clara Rugaard, who plays the Daughter, and Rose Byrne voicing the Mother. Hilary Swank has been cast as the stranger who opens Daughter’s eyes.
You might recognise Rose and Hilary from their previous roles in mainstream films like X-Men and P.S I love you respectively. Clara Ruggard is relatively new to the scene so it’ll be interesting to see how she performs.
I Am Mother already featured in the Sundance Film Festival 2019 so hopes are even higher. The movie drops on Netflix on June 7. Watch the trailer below!
