The winner, or rather winners of Comicstaan season 2 have been announced as Aakash Gupta and Samay Raina.
The cash prize of ₹10 lakh reserved for the one to triumph was ultimately not divided. Both the winners will receive ₹10 lakh each.
The stand-up comedy hunt proved to be a gruelling competition with Samay leading at the start, but Aakash overtaking him. Nobody was able to topple him thereafter.
Each round focused on a different genre of comedy, improve, topical, sketch and anecdotal for example. One of the judges acted as the mentor to the contestants during each round.
Aakash had already proven himself to be the one to beat. He received a perfect ten from all the judges on two separate occasions.
But the season finale was a clean slate. None of the previous scores were taken into account when choosing the winner of this season.
Even in the finale, Aakash received a 9.6 score from the judges, the highest score of the night, while Samay got 9.1. However, the latter was able to make ground with a higher audience score.
Keeping scores aside, both Aakash and Samay’s performances received rave reactions from the judges.
Zakir told Aakash that he gives the judge more inferiority complex in 5 minutes than the other judges combined have managed to give him over the years.
Neeti was left dazzled by Samay’s set in the finale. She said: “That’s genuinely as perfect a set I’ve heard tonight.”
This season, in general, has been better received than the first one, which has been attributed to contestants better knowing what to expect.
Comicstaan has been immensely popular in the country and is one of Amazon Prime Video’s prime assets in the country. Judging from the response to this edition, a season three might well be on the cards.
