‘Chakda ‘Xpress’ on Netflix concludes filming

Filming for the upcoming Netflix sports biopic ‘Chakda Xpress’ has been wrapped up, the streaming service has announced.

The film revolves around women’s cricket legend Jhulan Goswami. It stars Anushka Sharma in the lead, whose banner ‘Clean Slate Filmz’ is handling the production. Prosit Roy is the director, while Anushka’s brother and co-owner of the banner, Karnesh Sharma, serves as the producer.

The official synopsis reads: “Tracing the glorious journey of one of the fastest female pacers in the history of world cricket, Jhulan Goswami, as she moves up the ladder despite the countless hindrances posed by misogynistic politics to fulfil her only dream: to play cricket.”

Talking about the ‘Chakda ‘Xpress’, Sharma had earlier said: “It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket.

“At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport. This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women’s cricket.”

The filming took place over 66 days, across 6 cities. No exact release date has been announced yet.
