8 shows like Sky High: The Series on Netflix

Sky High: The Series follows Sole as she determines to lead her husband’s gang of thieves independently after his death. She needs to learn to make the right choices without her father’s help and earn the respect of those around her.

Sky High: The Series is a sequel to the 2020 Spanish crime thriller film, Sky High. After Ángel’s death in the film, his widow, Sole, takes over his gang of thieves. She now wishes to manage the gang and live life on her own terms.

However, it will not be easy to create an identity of her own when her father, Rogelio, a powerful trafficker, is still in the picture. Apart from Sole’s journey to become a boss, the show also includes heists that add a sense of danger and thrill to it.

Here are 8 shows like Sky High: The Series, some depicting women taking a precarious road for the sake of their independence, while others are shows based on heists and gangs that come packed with action, violence, and danger.

1. Ganglands (2021 – Present)

Cast: Sami Bouajila, Tracy Gotoas, Sofia Lesaffre

Mehdi, a heist leader, is an experienced thief. His niece, Shaïnez, poses as a sex worker to get new clients and steal from them. One such incident leads to her and her girlfriend, Liana, stealing eight kilos of cocaine from a drug courier.

Although she never intended to steal the cocaine, Shaïnez is taken by its owner, a drug baron who wants his drugs back. Mehdi and Liana join forces to save Shaïnez and end up in a turf war, but not without forming a bond.

Similar to Sky High: The Series, Ganglands is a show that comes with the promise of danger, drugs, fights, lies, and betrayals as a band of hustlers goes against powerful drug dealers.

2. Money Heist (2017 – 2021)

Cast: Úrsula Corberó, Álvaro Morte, Itziar Ituño, Pedro Alonso, Paco Tous, Alba Flores, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente

After watching Sky High: The Series, if you wish to get an extra dose of Spanish thrill and watch more heists, the show you are looking for is Money Heist.

A man called the Professor plans to carry out the perfect heist. He recruits a group of eight thieves who take hostages at the Royal Mint of Spain as the Professor makes the police play his game with his rules to get what he wants.

Money Heist is one of the most popular crime thrillers on Netflix. The hype created by the show and its cultural influence contributed to its popularity. The critically acclaimed show also has a South Korean adaptation and a spin-off series in the works.

3. Shanty Town (2023 – Present)

Cast: Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Nancy Isime

Sky High: The Series deals with a woman’s efforts to become independent and lead a gang. Similarly, Shanty Town also revolves around various women yearning for independence in a world of gangs and crimes controlled by men.

A cruel gang leader named Scar claims to own his courtesans. These women have no choice but to stay and do his bidding, even though they are exploited and live a life that they do not want.

These women are forced to make morally ambiguous choices in a depraved world for their survival, but when one woman rises against Scar, the others also decide to fight to get what is theirs but has been denied to them all their lives.

4. Lupin (2021 – Present)

Cast: Omar Sy, Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Hervé Pierre

When Assane Diop was young, his father was accused of stealing a necklace by an influential man, Hubert Pellegrini. His father was innocent, and the shame of being locked up led him to take his own life in prison.

Twenty-five years later, Assane, inspired by the accounts of gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, a fictional character, seeks revenge. He uses the style of Arsène Lupin to carry out heists and adopt disguises to take Pellegrini down.

Lupin is a series praised by critics for its engaging plot and Omar Sy’s charming performance. The thriller keeps the audience on the edge of their seats as the protagonist, a master thief, employs sharp-witted schemes to avenge his father’s death.

5. Kaleidoscope (2023)

Cast: Giancarlo Esposito, Rufus Sewell, Paz Vega, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney, Niousha Noor

Kaleidoscope is yet another one of the shows that focus on a group of thieves attempting an ambitious heist worth billions. Leo Pap is a master criminal who leads this group to steal from the SLS vault, but human vices like greed always pose the threat of betrayal.

The show stands apart from others like it because the episodes of Kaleidoscope can be watched in any order, which allows the audience to get different perspectives based on the order that they choose.

6. Kings of Jo’Burg (2020 – Present)

Cast: Shona Ferguson, Zolisa Xaluva, Sello Sebotsane, Buhle Samuels, Tk Sebothoma, Nnekwa Tsajwa

Kings of Jo’Burg follows two brothers, Simon and Mo, who rule Johannesburg’s criminal underworld. The story takes place after Mo finishes serving a prison sentence for participating in a heist with a group that included his brother, Simon.

It all gets ugly when men kill their own kin for selfish motives, betraying their family’s trust. Mo needs to constantly look over his shoulder and figure out who can be trusted.

The world of crime depicted in the show is similar to that of Sky High: The Series, but there is also a supernatural element involved here; apart from a lack of loyalty, there is also a family curse that threatens to destroy this family.

7. CAT (2022)

Cast: Randeep Hooda, Danish Sood, Suvinder Vickey, Geeta Aggarwal Sharma, Dakssh Ajit Singh

In Sky High: The Series, Sole takes chances, cleans up messes, and avoids one land mine after another. Watching CAT would give the audience a similar experience. It is the story of a former police informant who has to infiltrate a circle of powerful people involved in illegal activities.

A show where drugs, politics, and crime come together cannot be made without its share of lies, deception, and violence. The plot builds tension when the protagonist is forced to cross lines and betray not only those around him but also his principles to reach his goal.

The show was praised for staying true to its setting. The events on-screen seem very realistic because the show manages to present an authentic view of society and the nature of man.

8. Sky Rojo (2021 – 2023)

Cast: Verónica Sánchez, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Lali Espósito, Asier Etxeandia

Sky Rojo is also a Spanish drama; it follows three sex workers who wish to be free and independent. They run away to live the life they always wanted but are chased by Romeo, their procurer.

The journey is full of dangers. It is certainly frightening, but the idea of freedom is much sweeter. These bold and determined women refuse to be intimidated from pursuing the life they wish to live.

These women fight together and would risk anything for each other; the same sense of camaraderie is seen in Sole’s gang and in her loyalty to them in Sky High: The Series. Their bond is definitely one of the best things about the show.
