Yu Ji-Hyuk: Marry My Husband character explained

Yu Ji-Hyuk is one of the main leads in the revenge fantasy drama, Marry My Husband. Na In-woo plays the character in the show.

Yu Ji-Hyuk is the Marketing manager of U&K Food who has been the biggest help to Kang Ji-Won in her second life, which begins after she is murdered in 2023 and finds herself ten years back in time.

A helper amid absurdity

When Ji-Won has a hard time contending with the whiplash of having traveled back in time.

She becomes violent when she’s greeted by Park Min-Hwan, her boyfriend in 2013 who killed her back in 2023.

He gets his scalp pulled by Ji-Won and before he can swing his arm, Ji-Hyuk comes to the rescue.

He helps her come to her senses and gain composure, and in almost record time, he saves her from tripping, falling, getting burned, and getting hit.

He’s always there to hold her before she hits the ground. This recurring rescue becomes an active metaphor for his role in this new life that Ji-Won has found herself in.

It’s 2013 again and she’s 31 years old.

In 2023, she barely exchanged words with Mr. Yu, but now she knows him really well.

As days go by, they have a meal together, hang out, share jokes, and flirt, she gives him fashion tips, and he abides, all while he actively works to help her get her revenge.

The fated unrequited lover

Yu Ji-Hyuk was in an unrequited love with Ji-Won in her previous life. He always loved her but from a distance, and never got enough courage to share his feelings.

He tried talking to her sometimes but she only misunderstood him or never bothered to keep the run-ins in her mind.

Apart from that, he always remained a one-sided lover until the end.

When she is killed by her husband Min-Hwan, her best friend Su-Min abets and aids, he attends her wake.

At the funeral, he overhears her high school friends collectively wondering if Su-Min duped them all this time and was guilty of all the bad deeds that she always blamed Ji-Won for.

On his way back, he gets distracted and dies in a car crash. Like Kang Ji-Won, he is sent back in time to 2013.

When he wakes up, there’s a blue heart on her chest, like the ones Ji-Won’s father used to draw on the bills he gave her for allowance.

He knows that her boyfriend Min-Hwan and her best friend will betray and murder her, but he can’t tell her that directly because he doesn’t know she has traveled back in time as well.

That’s why Yu Ji-Hyuk keeps helping her out and gets worried when she seems to have a good time with Min-Hwan.

That, and his love for her is another major reason he’s always there for her, and his worry for aforementioned instances also has a tinge of jealousy.
