Yoon Chae-ok: Gyeongseong Creature character explained

Yoon Chae-ok is a sleuth who comes to Gyeongseong to find her mother. In Gyeongseong Creature, Han So-hee plays Chae-ok.

Yoon Chae-ok and her father, Jung-won, are detectives who specialize in finding missing people. They had a reputation as sleuths in Manchuria.

Their search for a Japanese artist named Sachimoto brings them to Gyeongseong and to Tae-sang, the information king of Gyeongseong.

A skilled and honorable detective

The first time Chae-ok meets Tae-sang, they exchange blows until Tae-sang realizes just how beautiful Chae-ok is.

However, that does not deter Tae-sang from making snarky remarks. Chae-ok does not receive any help from him, and the two get off on the wrong foot.

Due to that, Chae-ok is unwilling to work with Tae-sang when Mrs. Nawol introduces him to her and her father.

Chae-ok only agrees to look for Myeong-ja when Tae-sang promises to help her find Sachimoto in return.

Chae-ok and her father are good at their job, so it is not hard for them to find Myeong-ja’s whereabouts.

Apart from being a skilled detective, Chae-ok is also kind. She decides to leave the hospital only after rescuing the prisoners there, knowing that she is risking her life.

She also convinces Tae-sang, who has come to rescue her, to work with her in saving the innocent people.

It does not take Tae-sang long to fall in love with Chae-ok, as she is the only girl who does not try to impress him or get his attention.

As she honors the deals that she makes, she refuses to leave the hospital without rescuing Myeong-ja, even when Tae-sang asks her to do so.

Fighting alongside Tae-sang makes Chae-ok realize that, contrary to her first impression, Tae-sang is a good man, and she, too, starts falling in love with him.

A decade-long search

Tae-sang keeps his end of the bargain and brings Sachimoto to Chae-ok. She has been looking for Sachimoto because he had recently drawn a portrait of her mother.

Chae-ok’s mother has been missing for ten years now, and Chae-ok, along with her father, is still trying to find her. That is how they became sleuths in the first place.

While Sachimoto does not know where Chae-ok’s mother is, Kato, a Japanese soldier she meets at the hospital, does.

When Chae-ok comes across the message written by her mother on the walls of the prison, she questions Kato about what happened to her mother.

She finally discovers that her mother has turned into a dangerous creature, and her search for her mother comes to an end.

It is Tae-sang who comforts her when she is heartbroken after seeing her mother. She then fights with Tae-sang to ensure that the prisoners escape safely.

When it is time for her and Tae-sang to leave, she finds out that Tae-sang intends to stay behind to hold back the Japanese soldiers.

Chae-ok does not want to leave without Tae-sang, but she has no choice, as she cannot risk the lives of the other prisoners.

Despite finding her mother and safely escaping with her father, Chae-ok remains worried, as she cannot stop thinking about Tae-sang and his sacrifice.

Chae-ok’s death

Tae-sang eventually returns. After Chae-ok and Tae-sang confess their feelings for each other, Chae-ok assassinates Ichiro and is then taken back to the hospital.

Once again, Tae-sang comes to her rescue, and they plan to run away together, but their story does not have a happy ending.

During an attack by Lady Maeda’s men, Chae-ok’s mother intervenes to save them. However, she mistakes Tae-sang as a threat and attacks him.

In the tragic turn of events, Chae-ok sacrifices her life to protect Tae-sang from her mother. Following her death, Chae-ok’s mother transfers the Najin inside her to Chae-ok’s body, bringing her back to life.
