Why does Sato get banished from the Chihara Kai on Tokyo Vice?

After Ishida’s death, the Chihara Kai is thrust into turmoil, and that deepens when Sato is cast out.

Even though Ishida wanted Sato to take over after him, he didn’t get a chance to make it official so Hayama took over by default.

Hayama has been reckless ever since he was released from prison and Sato did his best to keep Hayama in check.

Hayama took a special interest in Sato’s brother, Kaito, and began grooming him to join the Chihara Kai.

Sato didn’t want that and even got a request from his mother to keep Kaito out of trouble.

Hayama ruined their plan to get weapons and Sato covered for him, even though he didn’t want to.

Stepping out of line

After Ishida’s death, Hayama tries to use Kaito to take out Tozawa. He gives Kaito a gun along with Tozawa’s location and asks him to kill their rival.

Kaito agrees to do it, but Sato manages to stop him. Sato then goes back to Hayama and warns him to stay away from his brother, but Hayama threatens to hurt everyone close to Sato.

Kaito begins spending all of his time with Chihara Kai, but Sato tries one more time to convince him to leave.

He says that Hayama has no honor and talks about the mistakes he has made. He also mentions how Hayama only tried to use Kaito for his benefit and doesn’t care about him.

Unfortunately for him, one of the men loyal to Hayama overhears this and rats on him. Hayama confronts Sato and tells him that he will kill his brother unless Sato leaves.

Sato is forced to leave for the safety of his brother, unsure of where to go from here.
