Who is Joffrey Lonmouth? Why did Ser Criston Cole kill him?

Rhaenyra and Ser Laenor came to an understanding for their wedding. While they were both okay with their terms, Ser Criston wasn’t, and he took out his frustration in a fight during the recent House of the Dragon episode.

King Viserys proposed his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen’s marriage to the son of Lord Corlys Velaryon, Ser Laenor Velaryon, hoping to herald the second age of Dragons by uniting these two houses.

While Viserys and Corlys discussed the succession, Rhaenyra and Ser Laenor made their own terms for their marriage.

Joffrey Lonmouth & the arrangement Rhaenyra proposed.

Rhaenyra knew Laenor had a different taste. He was in love with Joffrey Lonmouth, a knight of House Lonmouth.

She asked Laenor to perform the duties to the realm along with her. Once they are done doing that, they will free themselves to pursue their other interests.

Joffrey tells Laenor about Rhaenyra’s secret

Despite the fact that Ser Laenor was getting married to someone else, Joffrey was pretty much okay with this arrangement.

The same can’t be said about Ser Criston Cole, who asked Rhaenyra to run away with him to a land where nobody knows them. Rhaenyra chose her duties towards the realm over her feelings for Ser Criston Cole.

She told him about the arrangement, and he thought she was using him for her desires.

The discussion between Joffrey Lonmouth and Ser Criston Cole

Later during the marriage celebrations, Joffrey Lonmouth noticed the tension between Ser Criston Cole and Rhaenyra. He told Laenor about it. Rhaenyra knew Laenor’s secret, and now he knew her secret too.

Lonmouth decided to talk things out with Ser Criston, who was already fed up with the princess. Lonmouth introduced himself and explained how this union of Rhaenyra and Laenor matters a lot to them.

Joffrey pitches Ser Criston to join him

He wanted Ser Criston to work with him and protect the couple and their secrets. Lonmouth believes if their secrets are safe, they are safe too. Ser Criston was about to bring out his sword but decided to hold on.

In a matter of minutes, we saw Ser Criston beating the skull out of Joffrey Lonmouth in a fit of rage.

It probably comes from the fact that Ser Criston lost his honor by sleeping with Rhaenyra, and then he found out Rhaenyra was using him for her own desires, and now someone was pitching him to get comfortable with it.

After beating Joffrey down, Ser Criston quickly left and went out into the courtyard to kill himself before being stopped by Queen Alicent, which closes the latest episode of the House of Dragon.
