Plot summary:

Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech are two talented surgeons working at a notable hospital in the galaxy who hope to get the Uniyum grant for better facilities.

Klak is an anxious, “by-the-book” surgeon while Sleech is a wild card, a “bend the rules in the name of science” surgeon.

Working alongside them are Dr. Plowp, Dr. Flork and Flork, Nurse Tupp, their interns, Vlam, Bognoth, and Ovu, and the janitor, Matt.

When Klak and Sleech are sent over a patient with an anxiety-consuming parasite in their head, the surgeons are beyond excited to study it.

It was sent their way by Dr. Azel, Klak’s ex-partner who works at Nebula General. Their hospital is backed by the Uniyum corporation.

They wanted to report the parasite to the Galactic Health Unit (GHU) because it was an unknown entity, but Klak and Sleech wanted to research it more.

Klak is especially invested because she is the face of anxiety after her mother experimented on her and wrote multiple books about her anxiety.

They lure the parasite out of the patient’s head using Klak’s anxiety but have to kill it because it is too dangerous.

Sleech later reveals that she saved it so that they can research it in secret. While treating an exploding patient exuding hormones, Sleech connects Plowp.

They begin dating, although Sleech isn’t too thrilled to commit to anyone at the moment. Klak fools around with Azel in secret but when she asks to make things more serious, they refuse.

Klak and Sleech get a patient with a time-loop chip embedded in them and use it to conduct experiments on the parasite, that they have named Larvin.

They continue to observe Larvin until it reproduces an offspring and then dies. They name their son Larvin Junior and stash Larvin’s body elsewhere.

Sleech gets a chance to be acting chief surgeon for a day but overextends herself when an accident brings in several patients.

Klak gets the opportunity to perform an important autopsy and Azel is there to help. But when she confides in them about LJ, they tell her to report it.

Back at the hospital, Klak is scolded by Sleech for telling Azel about their secret. Her anxiety builds after her best friend and the person she had feelings for attacked her.

She decides to put the parasite in her head and goes on a bender before attacking her mother’s talk show to perform brain surgery live on television.

Sleech and Azel manage to save her but the GHU arrives to take the parasite and arrest Klak and Sleech for performing illegal experiments.

Ending explained:

A creation of corporate greed

Larvin came from a peaceful species that lived in harmony with others on a utopian planet until Uniyum dumped their toxic wastes in the planet’s rivers.

The tainted water infected the parasites and turned them hostile, killing almost everyone. Larvin was the last survivor and he was sent off the world until he ended up with Klak and Sleech.

Azel found this out when the president of the Uniyum corporation asked them to get the worm and not let anyone else research it.

When Larvin Junior is captured, he lets out a distress call that awakens Larvin’s dead body from hibernation.

Larvin turns into a giant worm and begins destroying the hospital.

For science

Sleech and Klak escape confinement to get to the hospital and save Larvin. Dr. Vlam goes about clearing evidence that would send them to jail.

Then she goes to the GHU to find her mentors have already escaped. She collects Larvin Junior and heads back to the hospital.

Klak wants to create a weapon and kill Larvin, but Sleech wants to humanely trap them and treat them.

They decide to send Larvin Junior into his father’s brain but they get swallowed in the process.

Larvin tells his son that he must get revenge and he begins feeding his anxiety to his son.

Sleech and Klak find out what is wrong with the worm and think of ways to treat it, but Larvin dies before they can do anything.

However, Junior has the same problem, and they treat him before the GHU can stop them.

A new dawn in healthcare

They passed out after completing the surgery because they were hit with the GHU weapons that messed up their bodies.

They wake up a few months later to find that they have helped the entire galaxy by saving Junior.

The GHU began breeding them and using them as an optional anxiety treatment. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for Klak anymore because of scar tissue from when the parasite was forcefully removed from her brain.

Their hospital now has the Uniyum grant and better facilities, and a new employee in Dr. Azel who was fired from Nebula General for going against Uniyum.
