Plot summary:

The family is awoken at night by the sounds of gunshots ringing through the air. 2 months earlier, Nunzio, an ex-boyfriend from high school, approaches Anna at the bar.

He talks about traveling through South America and performing self-written plays and political theatre.

He asks Anna whether her mother is still acting, and she gladly gives him Nonna’s number so that he can help her get work again.

A month later, Anna and her family are supposed to meet Nonna for a meal, and Alessandra hopes it is to talk about Nonna’s massive inheritance.

Anna believes that Nonna is working again but the rest of the family is more concerned about their share of the six million Nonna has.

She eventually shows up and admits that she’s delighted in life because she has taken a new lover. It is Nunzio, who reached out to her about acting but it became much more.

She is deeply in love with him and is helping him renovate his failing theatre while also starring in his latest play.

Anna and Carlo visit her with news articles from South America claiming that she is not the first rich old woman Nunzio has charmed, and the previous two died soon after they married.

They are worried that Nunzio is swindling Nonna too, but she doesn’t believe so. She even shows them the wedding rings they picked out.

Nonna tells them they will travel to Menorca in South America for the wedding and then she will live out her life with Nunzio in Brazil.

Anna is worried for her mother and thinks of a drastic solution to the problem. She wants to murder Nunzio before he kills Nonna.

Her children consider it a crazy idea while Carlo is undecided. He is the first to show his support, and Alessandra even comes up with a plan.

Emilio is the only one against committing murder but he has no other option. Alessandra learns about a plant containing deadly toxins found in the region.

She suggests poisoning Nunzio since it would appear like a natural death and avoid suspicion.

The rest agree to the plan but Anna later suggests staging a suicide. Alessandra throws a tantrum because her plan is not taken seriously.

They arrive a few days before the wedding and Nunzio takes Alessandra and Emilio on a sight seeing trip.

Emilio points to a moment where Nunzio is at the edge of a cliff and Alessandra can push him off, but she doesn’t dare to do it.

Anna then shifts focus to the fake suicide and tries to plant seeds in Nonna’s mind that Nunzio is suffering from depression.

They must also account for Luis and Patricia, the house’s caretakers. Things get more complicated with the arrival of Bojan, Nunzio’s best man.

He is temporarily blind after an accident, but he does overhear the family’s plan to kill Nunzio.

He agrees to play along in exchange for 400 thousand. Carlo tells Nunzio that he plans on leaving Anna, and gets Carlo to write out a suicide note.

They can plant this on Nunzio’s evidence to back up the suicide angle. Emilio and Alessandra walk in search of the poisonous plant but have bad luck.

Emilio falls asleep on top of it and has an allergic reaction for which he has to go to the hospital and get treated.

This cancels out the poison plan completely as there is a medical record of Emilio linked to the poison.

Throughout the trip, Nunzio flirts with Anna while Carlo watches on. He sees Nunzio fooling around with someone by the pool and assumes it is Anna.

She denies it and claims it is her mother since they have been going at it like rabbits since they arrived.

The night before the wedding is when they plan to kill Nunzio, and everything is set in place.

Ending explained:

Final obstacles

The plan hinged on the fact that Luis and Patricia were headed out to the city for a festival that day. They also had to make sure they weren’t seen on any of the security cameras.

Luis tells Carlo that the cameras aren’t recording and only act as a deterrent to thieves. This gives them one less thing to worry about.

He then mentions that they will not be going to the festival since Patricia has fallen ill. Anna tells him to go while they take care of her, and even offers the family car for him to go.

The fateful day

The night before, Carlo has two sedatives of different concentrations ready for Nonna and Nunzio.

Their plan hits another hitch when Nonna’s bridesmaids show up as a surprise. Anna tells Bojan that he can take them to the festival to celebrate the bachelorette party.

Nunzio is left behind with the family and they are ready to go ahead with the plan. Carlo successfully drugs Nunzio, but when he passes out minds change.

Emilio is the first to walk away and Alessandra backs him up. Carlo and Anna agree to drop the idea but that is a lie they tell their children.

It all works out

They take him to the other car so that they can asphyxiate him, but after getting him inside, they realize the car is electric.

With no other option, they leave him on the sofa and go back to bed hoping that Nonna is safe.

They all wake up to gunshots and find Nunzio writhing in pain with gunshot wounds in his leg.

Luis shot him after catching him and Patricia sleeping with each other.

Nunzio survives but at the hospital, Nonna says that she will spend her life with him although it will be on her terms.

She also agrees to wire most of the inheritance to her so that Nunzio cannot get his hands on it.

She goes back to her family with the good news that Nonna is safe, but she doesn’t say anything about the money.

She wants to enjoy her holiday like a nice family, but the rest of them are anxious to know whether they are rich or not.
