Sai: Avatar: The Last Airbender character explained

Team Avatar meets Sai and his son Teo in Omashu but Sai has some troubling secrets. Dany Pudi plays the character.

Aang sees what he thinks is another Airbender and it leads them to Omashu, a city atop a mountain in the Earth Kingdom.

The Airbender was Teo, a boy in a wheelchair with flight capabilities. When an explosion hits nearby, Teo’s father Sai takes them all to his house to recover.

Sai is a mechanist for the Earth Kingdom, someone who creates all kinds of scientific contraptions to help the people.

He is the one who maintains the exceptional delivery system of Omashu that is well-known beyond its borders.

Teo wishes that Sai would help the Earth Kingdom fight back against the Fire Nation with his contraptions, but Sai prefers to keep his head low and safe.

Pushed by circumstance

Sokka takes great interest in Sai’s designs and offers to help work on some of them. He adds great input and Sai compliments Sokka for his knowledge.

Sai and Sokka shared interests and got along well with each other

Katara sees Sai sneaking around and runs into Jet, who shows her that Sai has been working with Fire Nation spies.

When Katara tells Sokka about it, he refuses to believe it and they get into an argument.

When confronted about it though, Sai admits that he has been working with the spies for his and Teo’s safety despite how misguided that decision was.

Jet and his band of fighters plan on killing Sai and King Bumi, but Katara gets there just in time to save them.

Sai is banished from the palace but regains favor after listening to Sokka and using his connection with the spies to set a trap with the help of the Earth Kingdom soldiers.

King Bumi enlists the mechanist to aid Omashu in their fight against the Fire Nation, and his design for a flying ship is used by Zhao to enter the Nothern Water Tribe oasis.
