Plot summary

Haru has got a new job. She will be working as a concierge at Pokémon Resort, a resort where Pokémon can come to relax on their own or with humans.

The resort is located on an island. When Haru arrives on the island, she is welcomed by her supervisor, Ms. Watanabe.

Some of the Pokémon at the resort are guests, whereas others are part of the staff. The resort is also home to some wild Pokémon.

Haru’s job is to ensure the guests’ safety and that they enjoy their stay at the resort. The resort’s motto is “Pokémon First”.

On her first day, Ms. Watanabe asks Haru to enjoy herself as a guest. Haru also meets other staff members, Tyler and Alisa, who have Pokémon of their own.

Apart from getting a new outfit with Alisa and relishing Tyler’s cooking, she is given a massage by Ms. Watanabe.

When she questions Ms. Watanabe about the staff having their own Pokémon, she is told that it is only natural that the staff members befriend Pokémon with time.

Once they become friends, they are inseparable. Ms. Watanabe assures Haru that she will also get her own Pokémon once she befriends them.

The next day, Haru prepares a report of her experience at the resort to impress Ms. Watanabe.

However, Haru’s supervisor isn’t concerned about the report; she simply wants to understand Haru’s feelings.

Haru tells her that when she saw Pokémon having fun at the resort and doing whatever they wanted, all her problems seemed inconsequential to her.

Haru had been stressed for the past few days, but all her worries disappeared after spending just one day at the resort.

Ms. Watanabe then asks her to choose a Pokémon and make them feel what she herself felt. It does not prove to be an easy task, as Haru does not understand Pokémon yet.

Seeing Haru struggle, Alisa advises her to figure out what makes Pokémon happy and make it happen.

A Psyduck has been following Haru since she arrived at the resort. Tyler tells Haru that this Psyduck is extremely shy and has not been able to make any connections.

Haru then decides to make Psyduck’s experience enjoyable. She finds out that it suffers from chronic headaches that activate its psychic powers.

After several attempts to speak to Psyduck, Haru finally manages to get hold of it and assures it that no one is angry at it for losing control of its powers.

Haru helps Psyduck learn to control its powers by using them in small amounts from time to time. Psyduck makes a lot of mistakes, but Haru is never angered; instead, she finds them amusing.

With Haru’s help, Psyduck learns to manage its psychic powers. The Pokémon bonds with Haru and starts staying with her at all times.

Haru realizes that her job is so much more relaxing compared to other jobs. When Haru sees how talented Alisa is, she wishes to discover her own talents.

When a Magikarp that cannot swim loses its floatie, Haru and Psyduck set out to find it. Unfortunately, the floatie is damaged by the time they retrieve it.

Haru then decorates the floatie with flowers because she does not want Magikarp to be disappointed, only to find out that Magikarp has evolved and does not need it anymore.

The other Pokémon like the decorated floatie and play with it. Haru’s decorated floaties become highly sought-after, resulting in Haru discovering her talent.

Ending explained:

A shy Pikachu

When a tour group comes to the resort with 12 Pikachu, Haru, who loves Pikachu, cannot contain her excitement.

She meets a boy named Nao and his Pikachu, who is not like other Pikachu. Nao’s Pikachu is shy and has a soft voice.

Nao has come to the resort to get his Pikachu to open up a little. He wants it to be more energetic, outgoing, and loud like other Pikachu.

Nao has tried to train his Pikachu to have a louder voice, but nothing has worked. He hopes that his Pikachu will change during their stay at the resort.

After hearing about Nao’s problems, Haru decides to help him. She will try her best to get Nao’s Pikachu to be more outgoing.

Haru’s failed attempts

Haru takes Psyduck, Nao, and Pikachu out to play. Their first activity is ziplining. While Psyduck and Nao enjoy it a lot, the activity leaves Pikachu trembling with fear.

Haru finds out that Pikachu is afraid of heights. Nao then tells Haru that he wants her to help him make his Pikachu louder.

Haru feeds Pikachu spicy food and even scares it to elicit a scream, but Haru does not succeed. Nao’s Pikachu continues to remain as quiet as ever.

Accepting others as they are

After all these activities, Pikachu and Psyduck fall asleep, and Haru draws a picture of them. She realizes that Nao’s Pikachu looks different from other Pikachu.

The realization leads Haru to recognize that, despite being different from other Pikachu, Nao’s Pikachu is still Pikachu.

Haru discusses this with Nao, who now understands that it is easy to get stuck when one is forced to be someone they are not.

Nao comes to accept his Pikachu as it is and decides to have fun with it instead of forcing it to change. Nao and Pikachu finally do something that Pikachu enjoys.

Learning and growing

When it is time for Nao and his Pikachu to leave, Haru apologizes to Nao for not being able to help him make Pikachu louder.

However, Nao is satisfied with his experience at the resort. He, as well as his Pikachu, had a good time, thanks to Haru. He has also learned a lot of new things about his Pikachu.

Nao and Pikachu say goodbye to Psyduck and Haru, who gifts Pikachu the picture that she drew of it and Psyduck.

Once their ship leaves, Nao points out that Pikachu made friends, which leads to Pikachu finally screaming to say goodbye to his new friends.

Haru is so happy to see Pikachu’s growth that she starts crying. While working at the resort and helping, Haru herself has undergone growth.

She has learned to enjoy herself without feeling anxious and contribute to the guests’ enjoyment and relaxation.

Haru is determined to do her best and keep having fun. The show ends with Psyduck and Haru welcoming a new guest to the resort.
