Other John and Other Jane are another pair of spies working for the same company that John and Jane work for. They are played by Wagner Moura and Parker Posey respectively.
Every couple paired up by the company is given the alias of John and Jane Smith, and during a day off, John and Jane meet a fellow Smith for the first time.
John runs into Other John at the farmer’s market and is eager to hear more about the job. He introduces him to Jane, and Other John suggests having dinner together that evening.
He and Other Jane arrive at John and Jane’s house and they share stories from work and their various experiences.
An eventful dinner
The company employs agents at different levels based on the risk involved. While John and Jane are high-risk agents, Other John and Other Jane are super high-risk.
Super high risk comes with better benefits and Jane is open to moving up a level, but John is more apprehensive about it.
After a night of drinking and fun, Other John and Jane say that they have to go out on a mission, and they invite John and Jane along to see what super high risk is like.
However, Other John and Other Jane intend to let John and Jane complete the mission alone while they head home.
John and Jane are taken to a remote jungle and end up killing a guerilla captain to escape, and Other John and Other Jane send them the payment for the job.
John and Jane later agree that Other John and Other Jane are a terrible couple who are unbearable to be around.
Super high risk
When Jane is assigned the task of killing John, she doesn’t get to it immediately. Getting shot at and losing her cat in the crossfire pushes her to action.
John had moved out by then and was living with his mother. When he came home with his mother and found his doorway rigged to explode, he suspects Jane.
After destroying their house in a firefight, John injects them both with truth serum to get certain things off his chest.
They both admit that neither of them made the first attack, and that is when Other John and Other Jane show up.
They say that the super high-risk level involves taking out other Smiths who are trying to escape the company or disobeying orders.
Earlier in the series, a couple of Smiths are shown living peacefully in hiding until some agents arrive and kill them.
This was an example of a super high-risk mission that Other John and Other Jane presumably carried out.
They strongly believe in the company’s vision and carry out their orders without question. Nevertheless, they seem to have met their match with John and Jane.
Other John is taken out early when Jane shoots him in the eye following a momentary distraction.
John and Jane hole up in the panic room while Other Jane waits patiently for them outside. With John bleeding out, Jane is forced to take the fight to Other Jane, but the victor of the shootout is kept a mystery.
