Nimona & Gloreth’s past in Nimona explained

In Nimona, the people of the realm know about Gloreth’s story differently than Nimona does. The monster Gloreth fought never intended to cause destruction.

According to the story that people believe in the kingdom, 1000 years ago, their kingdom was attacked by a monster from the woods. The monster destroyed and decimated everything in its path. At a time like this, Gloreth rose and saved them.

This story and Gloreth’s words have protected the kingdom for years. However, what many people don’t know is that Gloreth shared a past with the monster she saved her people from and that the people of the kingdom were the only ones responsible for their own fate.

Gloreth and Nimona’s friendship

When Nimona was a kid, as a shapeshifter, she tried to turn into different kinds of animals and fit in. She failed all the time until she found a little Gloreth.

Gloreth and Nimona became best of friends, and Gloreth didn’t abandon Nimona even after learning about her shapeshifting powers. Nimona played with Gloreth in the form of various animals. Things changed when Gloreth’s parents caught Nimona playing as a bear with Gloreth.

Nimona expected the other humans to accept her just like Gloreth did. However, they reacted differently. They armed themselves to attack Nimona.

Gloreth attempted to defend her friend, but her mother made her believe that Nimona is a monster. While trying to hurt Nimona, a villager’s torch ended up lighting the whole village on fire.

Nimona calls for her friend

While the villagers began running for their lives, Nimona tried to call her friend again. By this time, Gloreth had been brainwashed into thinking that Nimona is a monster. She picked up her wooden sword and ordered Nimona to go back to where she came from.

The humans blamed Nimona for the destruction of their village, and since then, in the scrolls, she has been mentioned as the monster Gloreth saved them from.

Gloreth became a hero, and Nimona, on the other hand, grew up being hated and rejected by everyone until she found someone like her in the form of Ballister, 1000 years later.

Writing a new story

Ballister and Nimona work great together, and they almost come close to taking the Director down. Ballister questions Nimona when he is shown the scroll that mentions her as the monster.

Ballister and Nimona had spent days together, and Nimona gave her all to help him clear his name. Watching Ballister turn on her by reaching out for his sword reminds Nimona of the time Gloreth turned on her.

Nimona’s heart breaks. Consumed by the hatred around her, she decides to fulfill the wish of the humans by killing herself. She attempts to do that by walking straight into the sword of Gloreth’s statue.

An apologetic Ballister stops her from doing so. He understands her, and Nimona turns back to the girl she is and shares a warm hug with Ballister.

The people of the kingdom watch this moment live on television and social media. The Director of the Institute remains adamant about getting rid of Nimona. She decides to use the canon on the wall to attack Nimona, even if it means that she will kill thousands along with Nimona.

Nimona sees this as a chance to rewrite her story. She turns into the monster people know and sacrifices herself in the process of stopping the canon’s attack.

From that day, Nimona becomes the new hero of the kingdom. People change their perspective toward her, something she never thought would ever happen.
