Kim Joon’s defeat in Wonderful World explained

The primary antagonist in Wonderful World, presidential candidate Kim Joon finally pays for all his sins and evil, as the limited series concludes its runtime with a bittersweet and cathartic finale.

Kim Joon hit Kang Gun-Woo with his car, but instead of taking the poor kid to the hospital, he got one of his men, Ji-Woong, to take the fall and kill Gun-Woo for good.

Ji-Woong’s wife later came to learn about the truth so he had her killed too. Meanwhile, he groomed their son, who got a transplant because his father had made a deal with Kim Joon to kill Gun-Woo.

The false angel

Seon-Yul always thought the mayor of Seoul was the kindest angel to him and his mother, whose hospital bills were being paid by the politician as well.

Seon-Yul sought revenge on Eun Soo-Hyun, the mother of Gun-Woo, who killed Ji-Woong in rage and went to prison for it. Later, he learns the whole truth and stops his quest for vengeance.

While Eun Soo-Hyun retrieves the tablet her son was recording a video with before he died, Seon-Yul joins hands with her husband, Kang Su-Ho.

The news anchor and his detective friend Hansang, along with Seon-Yul, create plans and strategize their attack on the corrupt politician.

Seon-Yul rallies up the other politicians who were all being blackmailed by Kim Joon, to go against the presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, Su-Ho manages to convince Joon that he’s abandoned his quest for vengeance and is now desiring a spot in the politician’s camp.

The plan

To lend credibility, he also brings Kim Joon his late son’s tablet, which the presidential candidate promptly destroys. Meanwhile, Seon-Yul also gathers the families of the victims of the Junseong Welfare Foundation, run by Kim Joon.

Taking the recording she finds in Gun-Woo’s tablet, which reveals Kim Joon’s culpability, Eun Soo-Hyun approaches a police officer.

After initial challenges to get her complaint filed, she opts for an alternative. She accuses the presidential candidate in the event of her new book release announcement.

Kim Joon responds, with a recording of Ji-Woong and Soo-Hyun’s exchange before the latter kills the man, as a way to show the media that Ji-Woong was responsible for Gun-Woo’s death.

He is later confronted by Seon-Yul, who goes to kill him but is thwarted by the security personnel. He tries to record the politician’s confession but fails to do so, as his audio recorder is found and damaged.

Defeating Kim Joon

Meanwhile, Su-Ho makes his move. At his program, he shows the nation the video evidence of Kim Joon gloating and boasting about what he did to Gun-Woo and others.

As it turns out, Seon-Yul had met Kim Joon’s secretary and showed her that she must defect to their side in taking down her boss, or she will have to pay for the crimes she’s been complicit in.

So with all these chess pieces, Kim Joon’s game crumbles. Su-Ho also whips out the real tablet he had made a duplicate of, which was what the politician destroyed earlier, and this was recorded by his secretary.

His confession in front of Seon-Yul is also recorded. Su-Ho also plays the recording of his suffering son’s last moments before his murder.

Kim Joon’s jig is up and even his most staunch supporters leave him after the truth comes out, while Soo-Hyun sees massive support from friends, family, the general public, and similar fellow victims.

Joon is sentenced to life in prison. He appeals to that, but Seong-Yul assures him from behind the glass that he won’t be getting out now and that he’ll stay here.
