Being a movie buff himself is one of the reasons he is quickly attracted to the case of Olivia Seigel.

The show hints that Sugar is suffering from some kind of ailment in his arm. Ruby keeps insisting that he visit Dr. Vickers.

Loneliness

While hanging out with Melanie Matthews, Melanie decodes the kind of life Sugar is navigating after learning that he is a Virgo.

She says Virgos are honest, loyal, and kind, but deep down, they are lonely. She guesses that Sugar doesn’t have a wife, kids, or a home; he has chosen to be alone. Sugar’s blank face suggests that Melanie is possibly right.

Another reason Sugar is investigating Olivia’s case is because she reminds him of his sister, Djen, whose case doesn’t seem to have ended on a positive note.
