In The Idea of You, Izzy is the daughter of Solène and Daniel. Ella Rubin plays Izzy.
Solène and Daniel had Izzy when they were very young. Solène was just out of college.
In the film, Izzy is a 16-year-old student who used to be a fan of August Moon when she was 10. She had the poster of Rory from the band up on her wall.
However, since then, Izzy has moved on from liking August Moon. Their music is not her thing anymore. For her, they have become very seventh-grade.
Izzy is more into aggressively talented female singer-songwriters now. Anyhow, when her father does bring her an all-access backstage pass and a VIP meet-and-greet for Coachella, she does go with her friends.
Izzy encourages her mother
When Solène and Hayes begin dating, Solène is not sure about this relationship, which prompts her to keep things from some of her friends and family, including Izzy.
When the news breaks that Hayes is dating Solène, it hurts Izzy, who somewhere thinks Solène did something similar to what her father did.
However, Izzy is more mad at the people who are tearing her mother apart because she is a woman a lot older than Hayes.
Out of everyone in the world, Solène cares the most about her daughter. Hence, after hearing from Izzy that she should not have let Hayes go, Solène visits Hayes and gives this relationship another chance.
A priority
Before going public with his relationship with Solène, Hayes makes Solène and Izzy understand the amount of criticism and attention they can get from the media.
Izzy understands and attempts to get familiar with the media surrounding their house all the time and CCTV cameras installed outside their house.
However, she struggles to handle the bullying she faces at her school, which sees her asking her mother to drop her at her father’s.
Solène can’t see her daughter suffering because of her, which leads her to break up with Hayes, who hopes to revisit Solène five years later, when Izzy is out of college and he is not that popular.
Five years later, Izzy is in Chicago. Hayes never forgets about Solène, as he comes back to her as he had planned.
