Ishikawa: Gyeongseong Creature character explained

Commissioner Ishikawa, the chief of the Japanese police in Gyeongseong, tasks Tae-sang with finding his mistress. In Gyeongseong Creature, Kim Do-hyun plays Ishikawa.

Ishikawa is married to a powerful woman, Lady Maeda, daughter of Lt. Gen. Maeda. He married her because he needed her name and influence to advance in his career.

Similarly, Lady Maeda only married Ishikawa because she needed a loyal husband who would bring her to Gyeongseong.

The search for Myeong-ja

Ishikawa keeps a mistress, Myeong-ja, and that does not bother his wife, as theirs is a marriage of convenience and the two of them do not care about each other.

It is only when Ishikawa gets Myeong-ja pregnant that Lady Maeda decides to interfere in his affairs and get rid of Myeong-ja.

Myeong-ja disappears overnight, and even with the whole police force at his disposal, Ishikawa fails to find her.

He decides to get Tae-sang, the information king of Gyeongseong, to find her. If Tae-sang fails, Ishikawa will take away everything that Tae-sang values.

Ishikawa does not trust Tae-sang and has him followed at all times. To find Myeong-ja, Tae-sang is forced to break into Ongseong Hospital.

Tae-sang then includes Ishikawa in his rescue plan. Under the guise of searching for a missing person, Ishikawa brings Mr. Gu to the hospital.

Mr. Gu sneaks out all the prisoners, just as Tae-sang had planned, but Ishikawa has no intention of letting them live.

Once Ishikawa gets Myeong-ja, he orders his men to kill all the prisoners. While Tae-sang’s plan saves the prisoners, Tae-sang’s associates are arrested by Ishikawa.

Events leading to Ishikawa’s death

After Tae-sang manages to get out of the hospital, he goes to free his people, who were arrested by Ishikawa for aiding Tae-sang.

This time, Tae-sang threatens Ishikawa. He can use his influence and get all the merchants to close their shops, which would get Ishikawa in trouble with his superiors.

Furthermore, Ishikawa is worried, as Myeong-ja has gone missing once again. He suspects her to be behind the murders of the people who were killed for their brains.

Ishikawa agrees to let Tae-sang’s associates go when Tae-sang tells him about the human experiments and Lady Maeda’s involvement in them.

It is made evident that Ishikawa does not even care about Myeong-ja and their unborn child. As soon as he finds out that she is the murderer, he refuses to acknowledge the baby as his.

He tries to send Myeong-ja back to the hospital in a cage, which results in Myeong-ja, who is scared and feels betrayed, attacking Ishikawa.

Ishikawa’s injuries are too severe. Ichiro tries to save him, but when Lady Maeda indicates that she wants him to kill her husband, Ichiro follows her orders.

In his final moments, Ishikawa begs Ichiro for help, but his pleas are ignored, and Ishikawa dies a painful death.
