Inés Reyes Santiago: Bandidos character explained

In Bandidos, a police inspector named Inés Reyes Santiago, played by Mabel Cadena, ends up joining Miguel’s group in their treasure hunt.

Inés is a diligent police officer who gets transferred from Mexico City. However, upon arriving, she finds herself surrounded by incompetent officers.

While most of the police force is corrupt, Inés stands out as one of the few who genuinely care about bringing criminals to justice.

She never hesitates to call out other officers for their incompetence or corruption, even if they are her superiors.

When she is assigned to investigate Luis Fernández de Montejo’s murder, she meets Miguel and the group of petty criminals he has assembled to find the hidden treasure.

Inés’ reasons for joining Miguel’s group

Inés’ ex-husband used to abuse her psychologically and physically, leading Inés to cheat on him with her best friend.

As a result, they got divorced. However, her ex-husband got custody of their son by bribing the judge and falsely proving that Inés’ is not a good mother.

Additionally, Inés’ ex-husband holds an important position within the police, and he used his influence to get her transferred.

Inés wants to fight him in court for her son’s custody, but Inés cannot afford a lawyer with her salary or bribe the judges. Inés needs to find a way to make more money.

Miguel, who was the last person seen with Luis, becomes the main suspect in Luis’ murder case. After some difficulty, Inés manages to arrest Miguel as well as his group.

The group does not reveal anything to Inés, but with one tiny clue and through extensive research, she figures out about their quest to find the treasure.

Inés decides to join the group in their treasure hunt, as this seems to be the only way she can get her son back.

While the group is not happy with Inés joining them, she leaves them with little choice. She not only has the moon stone but also threatens to arrest them if they refuse.

Gaining new friends and a partner

While working with the group, Inés changes a lot. She begins to enjoy life once again and stops being constantly angry.

Eventually, the group warms up to Inés, and she forms a special bond with Octavio, whom she has been pursuing for years.

Octavio trusts her enough to take her to his boat and assures her that her days of being a good police officer are not over when Inés struggles with the fact that she has been breaking laws to aid the group.

The two of them eventually end up sleeping together. Inés finds in Octavio a partner with whom she can share her most painful memories.

By the time the group finds the treasure, Inés becomes an integral part of the group. Apart from gaining new friends, she now possesses the means to fight for custody of her son.

However, she finds that she does not need to fight at all, as Octavio brings her son to her. Inés can then start afresh with her son and Octavio.
