Henry Collins: The Gentlemen character explained

Henry Collins is one of the antagonists in the crime comedy-drama, The Gentlemen. Max Beesley plays the character in the show.

Stanley Johnston is a billionaire, and he made his billions from his meth empire. Now he wants the infrastructure of the UK weed empire to push his product.

To do so, he needs the Glass family’s empire. To root out the Glass family, he needs to dent their business and for that, he hires a number of people.

One such person is Henry Collins, someone who goes a bit too far while doing Stanley’s bidding and has to pay the ultimate price for it.

Who he is

Henry Collins is one of London’s most successful boxing promoters. He’s a man of refined elegance and a lot of contacts.

He is also a money launderer and makes use of his trusted bookmaker Rick to do all the washing.

Henry is pocketed by the bigger fish, Stanley, in a bid to drive the Glass family out to make way for the American.

At the same time, Eddie also approaches Henry, to clean £15 million for Susie Glass because he disapproves of her chosen money launderer and her delays in getting the money cleaned.

Going too far

Henry promises Eddie a swift process for the laundering. Meanwhile, during Susie’s brother, Jack’s boxing match, he rigs the game.

He pays off a ringer to face off against Jack, who’s taken by surprise and to his breaking point, before getting pummeled into a coma.

While he’s getting the beating of his life, Henry threatens Susie, before going underground.

Jack is hospitalized and Susie goes on a killing spree but fails to catch up to the boxing promoter.

Getting caught and killed

Henry finally breaks ties with Stanley after he’s caught by Susie. Later, he’s approached by Eddie, who ropes him in to invest in the highest bid for Bobby Glass’s empire.

Collins obliges and invests his £15 million as well as helps eliminate Eddie and Susie’s competition in buying the empire.

He’s soon faced with the consequences of his actions when Eddie presents him to Susie in a jungle, as a gift to her for what he did to her brother.

Susie refuses to kill Henry, because she wants Eddie to do that, and Eddie readily obliges and marks the beginning of his dark journey by killing Collins.
