Susie Glass: The Gentlemen character explained

Susie Glass is one of the main leads in The Gentlemen, played by Kaya Scodelario on the show, now available for streaming on Netflix.

Susie Glass is the daughter of Bobby Glass, the currently incarcerated head of the Glass empire. 

It comprises a criminal organization that is fueled by the industrial marijuana farms they own and run. 

While Bobby makes the biggest decisions regarding the direction their organization is headed towards, Susie runs the organization and handles the day-to-day business. 

And she does so with a formidable level of competence and fearlessness, which is one of her defining traits. 

The acting head

She is also really resourceful and carries a gravitas and air of authority that other gangs and criminal mafia respect. 

She has nerves of steel and even though she doesn’t like to put herself in situations dealing with high chances of mortal danger, she keeps her composure and holds her own, should such eventuality appear.

The Glass name is feared and respected all over, and yet it would not be that way were it not for Susie’s leadership and the way she runs things by herself.

Her father exercises a lot of power and control still, but being in prison limits him, whereas Susie works freely and almost exists as the face of the empire and business.

Working with Eddie

She recruits Eddie gradually to their organization, even as he likes to convince himself that he’s not a part of their criminal world. 

She respects him and works along with him in tandem, as their partnership yields record productivity, profits, and results for the business.

At the same time, she makes sure that she keeps him sort of on a leash and withholds information from him, which she deems could make him a less effective participant. 

Susie’s love for family

Susie loves her brother Jack, a boxer and a hyperactive sex pest. Even despite his troublesome quirks and traits, she loves him. 

She has always cared for him ever since their mother passed away early in their childhood. She admits at one point that she never saw caring for him as a responsibility. 

She has the same kind of love for her father, which comes with a certain level of evident fear and respect. 

The tussles with father

She believes that her father has taken his eye off the ball. She says he’s become complacent with the kind of profit that the already existent and functioning

Every time she talked to him about taking things to the next level, he wasn’t interested. And so when he tells her and Eddie that he’s selling off his business, she doesn’t protest.

She goes along with his wishes and just seems to be heading towards a super early retirement. However, Eddie and especially his mother convince her to step up and take the helm of the empire. 

The Gentlemen (2024) ends with Susie and Eddie becoming two of the biggest investors in the Glass empire. She might not be out of her father’s shadows just yet, but one of her feet is.
