Gang Bong-Go: Strong Girl Nam-Soon character explained

Gang Bong-Go is a major supporting character in the Korean comedy-drama series, Strong Girl Nam-Soon. The character is played by Lee Seung-Joon.

When she went missing in Mongolia at the age of five, all Nam-Soon could repeat again and again through endless tears was “pappa.”

Her father, meanwhile, looked around for her, crying out for his daughter as tears fell endlessly. That’s when everything changed for not just Nam-Soon, but also her father Bong-Go, who had his wife and others to answer for this tragedy.

A happy househusband

It was 1999 when Gang Bong-Go and Geum-Ju’s love story began. She owned a little soup restaurant back then instead of a pawn shop, which later would grow into the massive empire she owns in the current day.

Much like the present, she still had Midas touch to her. Whatever she touched turned to gold, but it’s also shown that she had the brains to back up these tall tales. She grew her business and the business made money.

Gang Bong-Go was a bank teller back then and he would frequently go to her restaurant to collect the money.

During those times she made her move and the two started dating. In 2001, she proposed to him and offered him support for his photography dreams and a life of luxury.

In exchange, all she asked for was to be the house husband and give her a daughter so she could pass on her genes. He accepted the offer because it was such a no-brainer.

He loved her and the offer didn’t hurt, especially when he despised his job and wanted to go around the world photographing things. These are all the things he could’ve ever dreamed of.

A man of regrets

Their perfect world would come crashing down when at the age of five, Bong-Go took his daughter and his muse to Mongolia, to capture the landscapes and make something special for her.

However, their trip turned into tragedy when Bong-Go and Nam-Soon got separated and she got lost. He tried to look for her but couldn’t. This led to his divorce from Geum-Ju, and they’ve been away from each other ever since, even when their love for each other remains strong inside.

The guilt and regret of that day in Mongolia has eaten away at Gang Bong-Go’s insides ever since and he’s had trouble reconciling with that mistake. In the present day, he owns and runs a photo studio while hoping that his daughter is found.
