Dionysus: Percy Jackson and the Olympians character explained

Dionysus or Mr. D is the camp director of Camp Half-Blood in Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. Jason Mantzoukas plays the character.

The first authority figure Percy meets at Camp Half-Blood besides Mr. Brunner is Mr. D. Mr. D is just minding his own business when Percy approaches him with his concerns.

Grover follows behind and explains that Mr. D is the camp director, and the ‘D’ stands for Dionysus.

Dionysus is primarily known for being the God of Wine, but he also serves as the patron of other simple vices.

Trying to take advantage

Percy asks Dionysus for help getting in touch with his father, whoever they may be. Dionysus claims to be Percy’s father himself.

Grover warns Percy that he mustn’t get involved with Dionysus because that would beg for trouble.

Percy momentarily believes that he is Mr. D’s son and the camp director asks Percy to get a specific bottle of wine from the galley.

His ruse is thwarted when Mr. Brunner walks up to them and reveals that Mr. D is simply trying to use a loophole.

Zeus has forbidden Mr. D from drinking alcohol, but demigods can do things for gods that the gods themselves are not allowed to do.

Mr. D has a significantly laidback attitude which is balanced out by Mr. Brunner’s more responsible approach.

However, the two of them are on the same page when Grover suggests that Hades has Percy’s mother.

Dionysus and Chiron are the ones in charge at Camp Half-Blood

They do not want Grover to share this information with Percy for reasons beyond his understanding.
