David O’Donnell: Reacher season 2 character explained

David O’Donnell, portrayed by Shaun Sipos, is the outspoken member of the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit. He is known for favoring brass knuckles and a switchblade as his preferred weapons.

David O’Donnell is notorious for his loquacity, often joking with the team when they first assemble.

Despite his initial jesting, he, like the rest of the team, forms a bond with his colleagues after a bar fight.

While he initially ignores Neagley’s messages, the team’s return to their ransacked hotel rooms reveals David actively searching for clues.

Notably armed with his brass knuckles, he draws Reacher’s attention to the switchblade in his other hand when questioned about his choice of weapon.

A domesticated man

He explains to the team that he was on a retreat with his family, in a place devoid of technology, which is why he missed their messages.

Learning of the situation, he decided to investigate, leading him to Reacher and Neagley’s hotel room.

While discussing the whereabouts of other team members, O’Donnell casually notes that he knows Swan’s address, thanks to the annual Christmas cards they exchange.

When Reacher is approached by Guy Russo, he suggests O’Donnell accompany them, given O’Donnell’s legal studies at Rutgers University.

However, it becomes evident that O’Donnell’s grasp of the law is superficial at best, rendering him somewhat ineffective in legal matters.

Despite this, O’Donnell adeptly uses his words to defuse tensions between Russo and Reacher, often interjecting with humor to lighten the atmosphere.
