While looking into her sister and husband’s death, Maya is forced to work with Corey the Whistle, a whistleblower who ruined her life. Laurie Kynaston plays Corey Rudzinski.
Corey the Whistle is a well-known hacker. He is infamous for using his blog to expose corruption and scandals at the heart of big institutions.
Corey believes that his work is important. He claims that he is an investigative journalist, not a conspiracy theorist.
A close call
On an overseas mission, Maya, an army captain, killed civilians. Corey finds out about it and leaks the details of the mission, which leads to Maya losing her job and facing public condemnation.
However, Corey releases the tape of Maya killing the civilians without the audio. The audio would have made matters worse for Maya because it proved that Maya did not follow the protocol.
Corey believes that Maya will have to live with herself, knowing that she killed innocent people, and that in itself is a punishment.
Maya’s sister, Claire, then reaches out to Corey and asks him not to release the audio. In exchange, she is ready to help him take down the Burketts.
One of the Burkett companies is selling dangerous drugs. They are getting away with it by falsifying drug trials.
Despite knowing that they are putting themselves in danger, Corey and Claire resolve to expose the Burketts. This results in Claire getting murdered.
Soon, Joe reaches out to Corey and asks him to meet in person. Corey agrees to meet him, thinking that he wants to turn on his family.
Corey remains unaware that Joe has killed Claire and wants to murder Corey as well. However, Corey is saved, as a few days before his meeting with Joe, Maya kills Joe.
Teaming up with Maya
Corey is aware that his life is in danger due to his work. He has two hideouts, and being paranoid, one of the locations is equipped with top-notch security.
After Claire and Joe’s murders, Corey follows Maya, who eventually reaches his hideout in the woods, and Corey reveals that he was working with Claire.
Corey cannot help but blame himself for Claire’s murder. As Corey and Maya both want justice for Claire, they set aside their past differences and join hands.
Corey tells Maya about Tommy Dark. Even though Corey hacked into Dark’s work, he could not find out why he was being paid by the Burketts.
Corey and Maya then find Dark’s body. Maya calls the police but does not tell them that Corey was with her. The police find out about that eventually.
It is not easy to catch Corey, who has set traps for anyone looking for him online from a police address. Corey gets arrested only because Maya had given the police the location of his hideouts.
Corey trusts no one but Sami to tell him about his work. Later, when Maya tells Sami the whole truth, she sends him to Corey. She involves them in her plan to expose the Burketts.
Corey hacks into Maya’s nanny cam and livestreams Maya’s confrontation with the Burketts. Along with millions of people, Corey and Sami witness Maya’s murder.
It is only then that Corey realizes that Maya was aware of the danger to her life; her death was part of her plan. Maya’s death shocks him, but he understands her reasons.
