Charlie and Stephen run a bookstore named Glass Books. Dalton meets them while searching for Frankie’s roadhouse.
Charlie strikes up a conversation with him, discussing a tree named Fred and offering Dalton a book on that tree. She compares Dalton’s job to a Western drama’s plot.
Stephen and Charlie welcome Dalton to Glass Key by gifting him the book on Fred. During his stay in Glass Key, Dalton becomes good friends with Charlie.
Charlie and Stephen’s life in Glass Key
Much like everyone else in town, Charlie and Stephen are used to thugs and aggressive people, which is why Charlie keeps a baseball bat to herself to fight if required and threaten people causing trouble.
Stephen has another job. Hence, at times, Charlie has to handle the bookstore alone. The bookstore was originally Charlie’s mother’s idea. She passed away a year ago.
Ben Brandt and his thugs take note of the relationship that Dalton shares with Charlie. Hence, when the time comes, Ben Brandt’s thugs target Charlie and Stephen.
Charlie and Stephen’s fate
Brandt’s thugs burn down Charlie and Stephen’s bookstore to send Dalton a message—a move that heavily backfires on them because Dalton was going to leave anyway.
Charlie and Stephen had nothing to do with the business between Dalton and Brandt, but they got caught in their conflict.
Dalton is pushed too far, and he resolves to make Brandt pay for what his minions have done. Dalton first takes down the thugs responsible and then steals Brandt’s money.
Even though Brandt kidnaps Ellie and uses her as leverage against Dalton, he is not able to get his money back.
Brandt is killed by his enforcer, Knox, in the end, and Dalton defeats Knox. Following that, Dalton is advised to leave town.
Dalton departs after leaving Brandt’s money to Charlie and Stephen, along with the book they had gifted him.
