Bu Mi-Ja’s death in Welcome to Samdal-ri explained

The latest episode of Welcome to Samdal-ri finally sheds some light on the death of Bu Mi-Ja.

Jeju receives an uninvited guest every April, just before the onset of Spring, in the form of bracken rain. It drenches the scenery and is accompanied by bad weather.

In the present, the bracken rain falls and threatens Sam-Dal’s mother’s life. In the past, it was what took away her best friend and Yong-Pil’s mother, Bu Mi-Ja’s life.

The deadly sea, storm, and rain

Bu Mi-Ja and Go Mi-Ja were best friends growing up and two even delivered Yong-Pil and Sam-Dal at the same time. The two were also talented haenyos and worked together.

In 2002, before spring, the bracken rain hit the coast and the chaotic storm that it came with caused a whirl in the sea. The cruel waves also hit Bu Mi-Ja.

By the time Cho Yong-Pil and his father ran up to the coast with their hearts in their hands, it was too late. Despite not knowing how to swim, Yong-Pil dove straight into the waters but his mother was already dead.

The return of the bracken rain

The death gave way to a deep resentment for Go Mi-Ja and her family in the heart of Sang-Tae, the father of Cho Yong-Pil.

In the present day, the bracken rain arrives again, and Go Mi-Ja knows better than to hurry to the coast before the storm arrives.

However, the situation is complicated by her heart condition, which has been deteriorating for a while now. Her heart gives out at the worst moment and she sinks.

Pair that with the oncoming storm, and Go Mi-Ja faces a very real and very dangerous threat of death just like Bu Mi-Ja.
