Brother: A Shop for Killers character explained

Brother is the latest addition to the eccentric cast of characters in the Disney+ mystery-thriller, A Shop for Killers. Lee Tae-Young plays the character.

A mysterious part-timer working inside murthehelp, Brother is a stuttering, meek guy who has a clinical aversion to sunlight.

Suspicious right off the bat, he has more to offer than what appears on the outside.

Appearances can be deceptive

Jeong Ji-An and Bae Jeong-Min, at her late uncle Jin-Man’s storage shed, descend through a lift and enter murthehelp.

It is the shopping mall he operated where all the weaponry and diabolical products and services are kept.

Jeong-Min is excited to see all the firearms but his excitement is cut short by a masked man who points a gun at them.

He stutters and is a physically timid and nervous guy. He greets Ji-An and introduces himself as Brother. To Jeong-Min, he asks to cuff himself.

Before he can say more, Ji-An lunges herself at him and pins him down.

He tries to talk out of it but Ji-An is already on an adrenaline rush and very wary of things and people.

Jeong-Min is especially rough with him, and Brother is similarly snappy with him.

His appearances can be deceptive, however, as he proves himself to be rather quick and savvy.

Apart from knowing and operating all the technological systems there, he knows how to free himself from cuffs in a matter of moments.

He also doesn’t hold back when he doesn’t want to. Even though Bae Jeong-Min seems to be the physically superior one, he’s more than capable of besting him in a scuffle.

Past, afflictions & talents

He sits in front of several monitors that display live footage from all across Yecheong — all the places where Ji-An used to frequent when she lived there.

It also includes footage from a camera installed inside the bathroom of Ji-An’s school. This, paired with his gun-toting greeting to them makes him look like a total creep.

However, Brother is revulsed at the implication that he watches Ji-An like some creepy guy from his chair.

He tries to tell her, time and again, that this arrangement in murthehelp is all thanks to her uncle Jin-Man, and his orders.

In the past, Brother was a sickly young teen hiding from the sunlight when Jin-Man came to help him.

He later recruited him for the position that he enjoys right now in the shopping mall.

The reason why he was hiding from the sunlight is because he suffers from Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a disease that makes the patient aversed in sunlight.

When Jeong-Min switches on the lights where he works, Brother gets distressed and begins to convulse.

He tries his best to convey through an imperfect speech how he’s afflicted by his disease.

Later on, he manages to trap Ji-An inside a bunker and tells her about all the guidelines before asking her to sign the document that officiates her takeover of murthehelp.

Once she does so, he is to obey her, and that’s what he does. However, he won’t free Jeong-Min as he tells her he’s dangerous and caused her uncle’s death.

As Jeong-Min shows his true face, Brother is one of the few people Ji-An has on her side for true support.
