Alecto: Percy Jackson and the Olympians character explained

Alecto is one of the Furies sent by Hades to capture Percy, and she takes the form of his math teacher, Mrs. Dodds. Megan Mullaly plays the character.

When Percy gets distracted by a memory of his mother at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he gets a stern word from Mrs. Dodds for letting his mind wander.

Later on, when he unwittingly knocks his classmate into the fountain using his powers, Mrs. Dodds reveals herself to be a Fury in search of him.

Thankfully for Percy, he stabs her using the magical sword given to him by Mr. Brunner earlier in the day, and she turns into dust.

Mr. Brunner and Grover lead him to believe that Mrs. Dodds didn’t exist in the first place, but they were just holding back the truth for the right time.

A terrifying pursuer

On their way to the Underworld, the questing trio stops to get snacks and when Annabeth gets back on the bus, she notices Mrs. Dodds sitting further up on the bus.

She recognizes the Fury and is given a proposition to hand over Percy. Another Fury attacks the bus and Annabeth uses her knife to kill her.

They get away with Mrs. Dodds following them. When the trio arrives at Medusa’s house, Mrs. Dodds corners them but backs away when the Gorgon approaches.

Hades sends Alecto and the Furies to capture Percy Jackson

Mrs. Dodds is referred to by her real name, Alecto, and invited inside although she doesn’t accept.

She waits outside for the children to return, but is defeated when Percy uses Medusa’s head to turn Alecto to stone.

She falls to floor and crumbles, but the fact that she returned from a fatal blow before suggests that she might not be gone just yet.
