Abijah Fowler: Blue Eye Samurai character explained

Abijah Fowler is the main antagonist of Blue Eye Samurai season 1. The character is voiced by Kenneth Branagh.

Blue Eye Samurai follows a blue-eyed mixed-race lone wolf warrior traveling through Edo-era Japan trying to exact her vengeance upon the white man who gave her a life of torture, and abandonment, with men constantly trying to kill her.

There were four white “devils” who came to Japan trading in an assortment of unholy things, like guns, flesh, and opium. One of the four Western men, Abijah Fowler becomes the prime contender to be Mizu’s biological father, as well as the biggest nemesis.

A coup decades in making

Abijah Fowler has been kept in a castle on a remote island for twenty years, with only a few occasions throughout the year when he gets to go out and attend to his perversions, among other things.

He came to Japan with his partners, trading in the flesh, opium, and most importantly, guns. The Shogun thought a little trade would do no harm and it was his biggest mistake, for he was not aware of Fowler’s plans to take over Japan.

His plan involves smuggling in a shipment of guns covertly and then using the defectors in the Imperial castle and other power-hungry traitors for the army of men, which he will then train to shoot and take over the Shogunate with ease.

The black market merchant Heiji Shindo, and the Shogun’s counselor Chiba, along with Lord Daichi of the Tokunobe clan are accomplices of Abijah Fowler in the coup, which he eventually leads and carries out successfully.

The Japanese weapons are merely primitive playthings in front of the fury of bullets. However, his plans don’t come to fruition as Mizu thwarts them when she arrives to get her revenge on Fowler.

Perversions

Abijah Fowler may look like a big burly man but he’s surprisingly, or rather horrifyingly spry. He proves to be a more than formidable physical match to Taigen and Mizu, two of the best samurai warriors in the story.

He’s also a beast, savage in his outbursts as he’s clever in his conspiring ways. He’s shown to have little hesitance or resistance to blood, guts, and gore. He’s not simply indifferent to it, he actually finds it amusing at times.

Fowler’s perversions are unflinching and he’s shown to be a regular customer of Madam Kaji’s tea house, a brothel that caters to niche fetishes and kinks, as well as proffer peculiarities.
