Jenny: Dead Boy Detectives character explained

Jenny Green is one of the major supporting characters in Netflix’s new teen fantasy thriller, Dead Boy Detectives. Briana Cuoco plays the character in the show.

Jenny is the owner of the ‘Tongue and Tail’ butcher shop in Port Townsend, Washington. She sports a punk and goth aesthetic.

She doesn’t like to be bothered in her professional and personal lives but interference and disturbance are most of what she has to suffer from ever since Crystal Palace became a tenant in her house.

Personal and the past

Jenny describes her father as an alcoholic and a raging narcissist, who left the butcher shop to her after his supposed death.

She finds meat cutting to be cathartic and doesn’t actually hate her work, contrary to how she can come across to some.

Her stern and strong personality tends to make others assume things about her that are not true.

She hasn’t been the most fortunate when it comes to her love life.

Her past experiences seem to have been bad, which is why she is so dismissive of dating again and finds the anonymous letters she receives preferable; letters can’t hurt her.

The best landlord?

Her hard exterior houses a soft, kind heart which makes her very patient with Crystal and Niko, considering the two make life so surreally hard for her sometimes.

They frequently wreak havoc at the house, which sometimes disturbs the customers. They also deal with ghosts and other paranormal entities.

Despite their antics, Jenny only ever gives them warnings and doesn’t go ahead with the eviction of any sort; she realizes and sees how Crystal and Niko are strong girls like her who are trying their best and have the best intentions at heart.

Dating is hard

She has an anonymous admirer who routinely sends her letters of beautiful poetry about her. Niko finds out this secret admirer is Maxine who works at the local library.

Despite Jenny’s reluctance and refusal, Niko insists on a date and persuades Jenny to go on one. She sets it up in the butcher shop itself.

Jenny finds in Maxine, as their conversation moves ahead, a person who is similar to her in many ways. However, after their first kiss, Maxine slips up, alarming Jenny.

Maxine turns out to be a psycho-stalker-murderer who lunges at Jenny when the latter, creeped out by her, tries to end the date.

Maxine ends up killing herself, leaving Jenny traumatized by the whole ordeal. She can’t forgive Niko for what she did but she’s still not harsh on her; she just wants her to stop interfering in her love life anymore.

New to paranormal

In Crystal’s case, Jenny even follows her to the skating ring where she says she’s going to meet her demon ex to settle things.

Jenny doesn’t know it is a real demon and she finds it the hard way, as David the demon possesses her and she’s knocked out for a while.

Waking up, she finds herself learning that demons and ghosts exist. Having experienced near-death, she can now see ghosts and spirits as well.
