Plot summary:

Bilal (Billy) and Douglas (Dogge) are best friends despite coming from different economic backgrounds. One day, Dogge calls the emergency hotline and tells them that Billy has been shot.

Dogge rushes back home while an ambulance takes Billy to the hospital. Farid is an officer who knows both children well and when he sees Billy, he heads over to Dogge’s house first.

His colleague, Lana, goes to Billy’s house to inform his family. Billy lived with his mother, Leila, and his siblings, Aisha, Rawdah, and Tusse.

Dogge lives in a big house with his mother, Jill, but she’s barely aware of his actions and he takes advantage of that.

When Farid arrives, Dogge is already washing his clothes and Farid believes that Dogge is the one who shot Billy.

Farid questions Dogge at the police station while they wait for his drug test results, and Dogge says that he killed Billy under Mehdi’s orders.

Farid tells the lead officer that Mehdi is a local drug dealer who uses children to do much of his dirty work. Billy and Dogge worked for him until Billy managed to get out.

There are parts of the story that Farid doesn’t know, but Leila and her family are distrustful of the police so they keep quiet.

Billy lived in an area populated with immigrants that was largely ignored by the authorities and that created an air of mistrust among the people there.

Mehdi took advantage of youngsters in the area lacking proper role models and needed quick cash to support their families.

Billy and Dogge were introduced to Mehdi and eventually started selling drugs for him. However, things started escalating and Billy wanted to get out.

After his initial statement, it was revealed that Dogge was high at the time. He was sent to a detention facility for his safety while the police built a case against Mehdi.

Dogge’s father was a rich man, but he died of cancer and Dogge was lost after that. His mother couldn’t take care of him by herself because she too was overwhelmed with grief.

At the facility, Dogge recognizes another boy as a member of Mehdi’s crew. The boy threatens Dogge, forcing him to recant his original testimony.

Then some masked men break Dogge out of the facility to face punishment. Mehdi is picked up by the police while they gather evidence.

With Dogge’s escape, they have no one to testify and Mehdi is released. Farid tried to push Leila and her family to come forward but they were scared.

Aisha sends Farid a video of Mehdi and his friend in a mask, beating up Dogge and Billy. This was soon after Billy tried to get out and it was a threat for going against him.

Leila eventually tells Farid that Mehdi tried to extort the family in exchange for Billy’s safety. Tusse also says that he saw some things that connect Mehdi to Billy’s death.

Mehdi taught Billy and Dogge how to shoot a gun, and gave them a bag with a Glock and two grenades.

He was ordered by some other men to kill someone using the grenades, and he passed on the task to the two boys.

Billy couldn’t go through with it and got rid of the grenades. Tusse saw where they stashed the gun and hid it.

He agrees to testify in court to help their family after Farid offers them witness protection.

Mehdi and his crew would regularly steal from a local supermarket and harass the owner, Sudden. When Dogge goes there after escaping from the facility, the shopkeeper snaps and hits him on the head with a baseball bat.

Dogge is taken to the hospital and undergoes surgery but the blow is too severe and Dogge doesn’t survive.

Ending explained:

Coming forward

Tusse agrees to go to the police but backs out at the last minute. He tells Leila that he was the one who gave the gun to Billy but Leila tells him to keep that a secret.

She asks Farid if she can be the one to testify but he says that it won’t hold up in court so it has to be Tusse.

Tusse wakes up to find his mother crying and changes his mind about testifying. They practice what his story will be so he implicates Mehdi.

When he first saw the gun, he moved it. But after Billy and Dogge were beaten up, he gave the gun back.

Mehdi gave the gun to Dogge for protection because he was going to Nigeria to stay with his uncle for safety reasons.

Poisoned chalice

Mehdi is picked up once again and the trial arrives 6 months later as the two sides build their case.

Dogge’s original testimony is shown even though he recanted it and subsequently passed away. The video of Billy and Dogge getting beaten up is also shown.

Leila confirms it was Mehdi committing the crime and then extorting her family after. Tusse then tells the court how Mehdi handed the Glock to Dogge, which was a fabricated statement.

Farid tells Lana that it isn’t the truth and even the prosecutor doesn’t know that, but it was the only way to ensure Mehdi would get convicted.

Mehdi is eventually sentenced but his operation continues as more kids fall under the influence of Mehdi’s friends.

Feeling betrayed

Billy got rid of the grenades by throwing them in the lake and kept it a secret. Then Tusse saw where they hid the gun and moved it.

Billy and Dogge come clean to Mehdi, and they are threatened with a gun to their heads. Billy tells his mother that he wants to get out and gets Farid’s help.

Dogge goes to Billy’s house to find out why he’s being ignored, and then Mehdi and his friends beat Billy up.

That is when Leila makes the decision to send him abroad, and Tusse gives the gun back to Billy.

Billy gives the gun to Dogge the night before he leaves, and Dogge sees Billy’s packed bag. They are supposed to carry out the hit that night, but Billy doesn’t show up.

Dogge calls Billy to their meeting spot and says that he has no choice but to listen to Mehdi. Billy says that he had a choice and he chose his family.

Dogge feels hurt and abandoned because of Billy and gets up to leave. He then turns and shoots Billy, killing him.
