She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 1 episode 6 recap & review: Just Jen

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+ chronicles the life of Jennifer Walters. A lawyer and cousin to Bruce Banner, she transforms into a gigantic green superhero herself after Bruce’s blood comes into contact with her.

Recap

Jen receives a sparkly-looking package covered in glitter and when she opens it, she finds an invitation from her old high school friend, Lulu, asking Jen to be a bridesmaid at her wedding.

Jen agrees to go because she wasn’t sure refusing would be a nice thing to do and she packs along some of the clothes that Luke designed for her specifically for the wedding. Nikki is excited because with Jen gone, she gets to work with Mallory, even if it is a simple divorce case.

Jen arrives in her She-Hulk form and Lulu pulls her to the side and accuses Jen of stealing her thunder. She makes Jen promise not to be in her superhuman form during the wedding and Jen agrees.

Jen is informed that the groomsman she’s paired with for the ceremony will be Jonathan, who will arrive on that day. Nikki and Mallory meet with their client, Mr Immortal.

Mr Immortal cannot die and because of this, he has been married several times during his lifetime. However, when the relationship reaches its limit, rather than deal with it Mr Immortal takes advantage of his power to “die” and end the marriage.

When Mallory and Nikki scold him for his insensitive handling of the situation, he jumps through the window to avoid the conversation yet again.

Jen is starting to realize that Lulu invited her simply to demean her and make her do a lot of work. Titania arrives at the wedding and while Jen accuses Titania of having a hidden motive to kill her, Titania denies any such notion.

Jen meets a cute guy named Josh but just as they’re getting along, Jen is tasked with more work around the venue. Mallory and Nikki sit down with all 8 of Mr Immortal’s ex-wives and attempt to settle.

Mallory insists that he pay them all but even though he reluctantly agrees, the women claim that since they were each married for different amounts of time, they shouldn’t settle for an equal split.

Jen finds out that Jonathan is actually a crusty-looking dog just as the other bridesmaids ask her to iron the groomsmen’s shirts. Later on, she decides to get drunk and enjoy herself on the dance floor.

She gets another chance to chat with Josh but rushes outside when she has to puke. Titania shows up and sucker punches her, admitting that she came to get her revenge but would prefer fighting She-Hulk over Jen.

Since Jen is still drunk, she takes a while to get going but she eventually turns and then lands a couple of blows on Titania. Titania tries to retaliate but trips over some ice that was knocked over and embarrasses herself in front of the crowd before leaving.

Nikki manages to convince the ex-wives to accept specifically tailored settlements and Mallory commends her handling of the situation. They celebrate later that evening while checking out a website called Intelligencia where people gather to discuss superheroes.

They find a thread dedicated to hating She-Hulk and Nikki wants to inform Jen but Mallory tells her not to bother Jen. She still leaves a message for Jen on her phone.

Jen is enjoying a plate of fries with Josh when it is revealed that she’s being surveilled by people connected to Intelligencia as someone prepares some tools to extract blood, presumably targeting Jen.

Review

  • This episode is a topsy-turvy one for the series as the content isn’t as entertaining but the CGI has one of its better days. Jen looks great in her She-Hulk form while draped in a dress although her facial expressions still leave something to be desired
  • The alternate adventure involving Nikki and Mallory has good intentions but it doesn’t manage to improve the quality of the episode all that much. Portraying superhumans going through everyday issues is still an intriguing aspect of the series, however.
  • The secondary villain, Titania, reaches the presumed end of her arc as she is humiliated in front of everyone and while the outcome is great, the execution isn’t as satisfactory.
