Rick and Morty season 7 episode 2 recap & review: The Jerrick Trap

In Rick and Morty season 7 episode 2, Rick swaps minds with Jerry but it gets botched and none of the two people are fully themselves anymore. Meanwhile, a crime town boss kidnaps Morty.

Recap

Jerry opines Rick is wasting his intelligence and claims he was born with a gifted mind and Rick disagrees vehemently. To prove he was not, Rick prepares a new contraption to swap their minds.

It goes awry and their personalities get scrambled up, with both of them having half of each other’s minds. Meanwhile, a crime town boss in a faraway planet frets because one of his underlings kidnapped Morty to sell crystals on their turf.

He calls up Rick and both Rick and Jerry arrive there and cause a stir because of chaos between them. This leads to the mafia boss getting in over his head and thinking he can take on Rick.

He’s wrong and Rick and Jerry manage to beat him together. Morty is taken back home but Rick and Jerry, who now are on very good terms and realize they gel very well, go on an adventure together.

However, the mafia boss who survived returns and kidnaps Morty, Beth, and Summer. Rick and Jerry realize they still have a responsibility and go to rescue the family. They are also now one body with two heads and eight limbs.

The family is rescued but this new fusion who calls himself Jerricky, announces he’s leaving. However, a minor injury forces the real Rick’s personality to peek out and ask the family to help them separate.

Rick and Jerry are their separate, individual selves again and back to hating each other’s guts, as Rick and Morty season 7 episode 2 rolls the credits.

Review

  • Rick and Morty season 7 continues to be great without the aural signature of its co-creator Justin Roiland. The new voice actors are doing a phenomenal job.
  • The mind and brain distinction is one of the best parts of this Freaky Friday swap situation here but this is not really explored and utilized to the extent it deserves to.
  • Rick and Jerry make for the most underrated pair in the show and their being amicable was definitely healthy but also not really enjoyable. They must be ripping into each other and the ending of the episode thankfully brings the normal back again.
