Crash Course in Romance season 1 episode 2 sees Nam Haeng-Seon begin her attempts at getting Hae-e into The Pride Academy while Chi-Yeol visits her store in disguise just to be able to eat her food.
Recap
Choi Chi-Yeol is engulfed by overwhelming nostalgia for Haeng-Seon’s food, feeling as though he’s familiar with the taste as he gulps it all down, without triggering his gag reflex as he does with all other food.
Nam Heung-Sun prepares to get Hae-e into The Pride Academy while a flashback shows how her niece was dropped off at the door of her mother’s shop long ago.
The flashback also shows a young man who studies all day and night to become a teacher, consuming only a meal per day that Heung-Sun’s mother ever so charitably provides him with, free of cost.
He is shown to be a diligent young man who suffers the loss of his father and shares a striking similarity with Choi Chi-Yeol.
Heung-Sun embodies the spirit of her Handball days and races against the time and other moms to get to the line and successfully manages to get Hae-e into the academy.
Meanwhile, Chi-Yeol can’t get enough of Seung-Hun’s food and keeps visiting her store in disguises.
Later on, he even gives her a brand new expensive phone to make up for Jae-Woo’s broken one, while disguising it as a gift for being her new customer.
Jae-Woo later figures out who Chi-Yeol is and Seung-Hun finally catches up on it too. They have a confrontation wherein Seung-Hun keeps asking him for an apology and Chi-Yeol keeps trying to flee the scene.
Their confrontation devolves into a scuffle involving Yeong-Ju and Jae-Woo. The chaos is abruptly put to a stop by a big silver ball that smashes the store window and misses all by just inches.
Previously in Crash Course in Romance episode 2, the same ball is used by a hooded figure to knock out the girl who stalked Chi-Yeol and spread those scandalous rumors online.
Review
- Although it’s not explicitly confirmed, it’s pretty heavily implied that Chi-Yeol has a history with Heung-Sun, and it’ll be welcome cliché when the both of them figure it out.
- Currently, the only one with some semblance of romantic feelings towards the other one is Heung-Sun, while Chi-Yeol only seems to be interested in the food she makes, not her.
- The mysterious man hunting Chi-Yeol seems to be connected to the celebrity instructor’s past involving the death of his former student Jeong Su-Hyeon.
- Crash Course in Romance has set up a lot of dominoes so far, both for the eventual grim unfoldings as well as the giddy romantic conclusions, and it makes for an anticipatory delight.
