Netflix has released a trailer for an upcoming series titled Sergio.
The show is set in the aftermath of the US invasion of Iraq. The drama focuses on Sergio Vieira de Mello, a top UN diplomat who strives for peace in the valley.
When a frightful bomb blast goes off in Baghdad, we see Mello battle for his life while trying to maintain the promise he made to his wife; get back home safe.
Directed by Greg Barker, Sergio is a remake of his 2009 documentary drama with the same title. The movie was based on Samantha Power’s biography, Sergio: One Man’s Fight to Save the World. Sergio had gone on to win various accolades. However, this time Bakers’ approach is to show the diplomat from a different angle.
The trailer portrays the diplomat as a good man torn between various situations while trying to maintain his humanity.
Netflix has cast Wagner Moura who is most famously known as Pablo Escobar in the Narcos series. Meanwhile, Knives Out star Ana de Armas will play his wife Carolina.
The screenplay has been written by Craig Borten who was also responsible for penning Dallas Buyers Club; a biographical film which won numerous accolades and nominations.
Sergio will be available on Netflix and select theatres come 17 April 2020. Are you ready to see Wagner as a good guy? Check out the trailer
