The streaming giant Netflix has released a full trailer for director Martin Scorsese’s new film, The Irishman. Spanning over many decades, this mob flick stars Robert De Niro in the lead.
He plays the character of Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran, a hitman who played an important role in the mysterious disappearance of leader Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino).
The trailer reveals a great deal of the de-ageing technology used to show De Niro’s character in different stages of his life. We also get a good look at Joe Pesci as Russel Bufalino and Harvey Keitel as Angelo Bruno.
The narrative follows its way through a lot of American history including the Second World War and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
The film, which has a $200 million budget, reunites De Niro, Pesci and Scorsese who previously worked together on another classic, Goodfellas.
The Irishman will be theatrically released on 8 November 2019, before making its way to Netflix on 27 November 2019. This 26-day gap before online availability is apparently to make the film eligible for entry into the academy awards.
Netflix might be in the running for some major awards with some big movies coming to the platform this year including The King, starring Timothée Chalamet.
