Taj Mahal 1989 (Netflix India): An ode to true love

Netflix has revealed the poster for its new original, Taj Mahal 1989, giving us a tiny glimpse into what it has in store for us.

The web series is one out of the three shows that Netflix will be producing in association with Viacom 18’s streaming service Tipping Point. The other two are She and Jamtara: Sabka Number Aayega

Netflix made the announcement for Taj Mahal 1989 via its Instagram by unveiling the official poster. Before fast love, there was a true romance, says the accompanying headline:

The web series will revolve around a multitude of themes including love, friendship, heartbreak, politics and the societal conditions of the time. It is a trip back in time to experience a good old wholesome tale of romance and is slated for a Valentine’s day release.

Starring Neeraj Kabi and Geetanjali Kulkarni, the show is based in Lucknow 1989 and focuses on the age-old charming notion of love in a small-town setting. Danish Hussain, Anud Singh Dhaka, Anshul Chauhan, Sheeba Chaddha, Paras Priyadarshan, Shiri Sewani, Vasundhara Singh Rajput and Mihir Ahuja, also portray pertinent characters.

The official synopsis for the show reads:

TRacing the lives of a Lucknow University professor couple, their students, a long-lost friend, his lover, and a schoolgirl in love with an older boy, this series is a tribute to love in all its unadulterated forms.

For centuries, the Taj Mahal has been regarded as the universal, unspoken emblem for undying and unconditional love, transcending time and culture. We believe the web series is bound to reinstate a new perspective to a concept as immaculate, pure and perennial as true love – in its romantic and platonic form.

Taj Mahal 1989 is due to premiere on Netflix on 14 February, 2020.
