Netflix has announced a new CG animated series, My Dad the Bounty Hunter, helmed by the Academy Award-winning director Everett Downing and Patrick Harpin. Apart from being the creators, the duo will also serve as executive producers.
Downing took to Twitter to share the news:
Starring Russell Hornsby, My Dad the Bounty Hunter is an action-comedy series following the galactic adventures of the toughest bounty hunter with “razor sharp skills” and a very important secret that he lives by — his earth bound family has no idea about his occupation.
But things don’t always go as planned, as family bonding is taken to another level when his two kids accidentally hitch a ride into outer space to find that their ordinary Dad is anything but. Amidst laser fights, aliens and space travel, they better hope that Mom doesn’t find out.
Hornsby will be joined by the other cast members including Yvonne Orji (Insecure), Priah Ferguson (Stranger Things), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), JeCobi Swain (Troop Zero), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool), Rob Riggle (The Hangover) and Jim Rash (Community).
Talking about their pet project, Downing and Harpin said in statement:
“We can’t wait to share our brain child with the world. My Dad the Bounty Hunter is a love letter to animation, science fiction, and Black families rolled into a crazy action-comedy. We threw everything we love about sci-fi into this show, but it’s the family at the center of the story that we’re most excited about.”
Downing has previously worked on Maya and the Three and Hair Love, whereas Harpin is known for Hotel Transylvania 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Dwarf Animation Studio has been appointed as the CGI animation studio for the upcoming series.
