‘House of the Dragon’ gets new poster featuring Rhaenyra Targaryen

HBO Max’s prequel series to ‘Game of Thrones’ has gotten a new poster featuring Milly Alcock as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her fire-breathing beast Syrax.

Alongside the teaser, which dropped in May, the makers also released character posters for the show:

‘House of the Dragon’, as the name suggests, chronicles the story of House Targaryen when they start ruling the continent of Westeros 200 years before the events of GOT. The plot will focus on King Viserys Targaryen I’s eldest daughter, Rhaenyra, who is next in line for the throne.

However, being a woman, her succession is looked down upon and is challenged by her half brother Aegon. This conflict leads to the infamous Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

It is based on the book ‘Fire & Blood’ by George R.R. Martin and acts as a spin-off/prequel to his ‘A Song of Ice & Fire’ series — the source for ‘Game of Thrones’.

The streamer showcased some stills from the series back in March on Twitter, teasing the buildup for the dragon war:

The show stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Tom Glynn-Carney, Eve Best and Rhys Ifans, among others. It has been created by Ryan J. Condal and George R.R. Martin.

The prequel series will premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2022.
