The bond between the late, legendary rapper Tupac and his mother, Afeni Shakur, is chronicled in the new docuseries Dear Mama.
The series is set to premiere on Hulu in 2023.
Director: Allen Hughes
“From award-winning director Allen Hughes comes FX’s Dear Mama, a deeply personal five-part series that defies the conventions of traditional documentary storytelling to share an illuminating saga of mother and son, Afeni and Tupac Shakur.
“Their story chronicles the possibilities and contradictions of the U.S. from a time of revolutionary fervour to Hip Hop culture’s most ostentatious decade.”
The renowned series ‘The Defiant Ones’ is Allen Hughes’s most recent endeavour. The movies ‘Menace II Society’, ‘Dead Presidents’ and ‘The Book of Eli’ are among several on which Hughes and his brother, Albert Hughes, collaborated.
In archival footage, young Tupac describes the traits his mother instilled in him. He then talks about her involvement in the 1960s civil rights movement.
