The documentary premieres on Peacock on January 17.

“The Girl Behind The Alert is the story of Amber Hagerman, the girl whose abduction and murder inspired the Amber Alert – which has since saved over 1000 kids.
Amber’s case remains unsolved. There are multiple suspects, a series of compelling theories, but proof has been elusive…
This year, the 25th anniversary of Amber’s murder, the detectives are still on the case, determined to solve the crime with new evidence and cutting edge DNA testing.”
The documentary also includes a video shot by a TV team that was unintentionally following Amber and her brother Ricky Hagerman before the murder.
According to WFAA’s parent company Cox Media, the tape was intended for a piece on families who had successfully transitioned off of welfare payments that was going to run on Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA.
In 1997, it was made available as a one-hour documentary titled “After Amber.”
The Amber Alert System is introduced at the beginning of the short clip, which opens with old footage of a little girl named Amber.
To find out what happened to Amber and how the authorities developed the Amber Alert System in the wake of the sad occurrence, the family, other victims, and officials are being interviewed.
