The Crown season 6 part 2: Did Carole Middleton shape William and Kate’s romance?

The Crown season 6 part 2 shows that Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, played a key role in bringing Kate and William together.

In the show, Kate and William first meet in December of 1996 in London. Kate’s mother takes note of her daughter’s attraction to the young Prince when she finds Kate cutting pictures of William in her bedroom.

Carole Middleton is then seen actively working to make sure that Kate and William will keep crossing paths with each other.

She keeps listening to the news and notes the progress William is making and his choices. Carole is shown as persuasive and constantly coaching Kate to have her go after William.

Kate was all set to go to Edinburgh University, but Carole suggested that she go to St. Andrews after hearing the news that William is going there.

Carole had put in efforts to such an extent that she had also encouraged Kate to sign up for the art course in Florence, where William was supposed to go, and also the expedition in Chile, which was attended by William too.

In a scene, Kate compares her mother to Mrs. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Carole, in her defense, explains that she has no sinister reason for wanting Kate and William to end up together. She thinks that William needs a nice, normal girl like Kate in his life.

Was Carole really behind Kate and William’s relationship?

It has been alleged that the decisions Kate made were highly influenced by Carole. The truth is that Kate did get accepted into Edinburgh, which was her first choice.

However, she ended up taking a gap year and then went to St. Andrews, just like Prince William.

Much like how it is shown in The Crown, Kate did attend the art course in Florence and the expedition in Chile.

In The Crown, Carole, played by Eve Best, explains that she doesn’t have sinister plans for William

Despite criticism labeling Carole as pushy and the person who trained Kate to pursue William, all claims of active matchmaking or strategic efforts lack credible sources and are speculative.

Hence, Carole may or may not have played a part in making sure that Kate and William end up together, and since the Middletons, especially Carole, have chosen to stay quiet, the world may never find out the truth.
